@hunger – 60 Million Children Died From Starvation in the Last 10 Years2/26/2011Dustin Cassell“Starvation, not sin, is the parent of modern crime.” - Oscar WildeIf 60 million children cry starvation and everyone is around to hear it, do they still make sound?According to Bread For the World, 16,000 children die from hunger related causes every day. Thisnumber is actually down from what it was ten years ago. But multiply that number by 365, then by 10,and you quickly see that in the last ten years, almost 60 million children have died from hunger relatedcauses. Unfortunately, starvation is a slow, somber, and sullen process – one often ironically sleptamidst the silent solitude of globalization. Everyone knows there are starving people and yet likestrangers in a strange land, we remain foreigners to the forgotten. We see the emaciated through our cameras and on our televisions, but often that is as far as our vision goes. Nearsighted, shallow are our hearts. What do they see looking through the other side of the lens? Ending hunger has become passé;a cliché relic of antiquity – yet hunger remains.
