REQUIREMENTS OF 21st CENTURY EDUCATOR

2

The march from Web 1.0 to 2.0 and now to 3.0 offers requisite of each and every student of today to be IT enabled by chalk and the cheese. The TEACHERS need to harness the requirements to the best of their abilities and interest further.

We understand well..

Of late there has been a lot of activity in the Web 2.0 realm. More and more online applications have hit the web making presentations, online portfolios and multimedia organization much easier for students and educators alike. Not only does this application make great presentations it offers very interesting opportunities for visually meaningful portfolios, global collaborations and creative multimedia integration.

The days of

Powerpoint

are over.

Students are not thinking in pages anymore they are thinking visually and now have an opportunity to create what they see and understand in their minds intuitively.

Be

a SMART Teacher

Not only Hard Working Teacher.

The Networked Teacher has to be:

Socially Networked
Must have Blogs Must possess a website Must have published documents Must possess GOOGLE Links

No

longer MS OFFICE No longer PROGRAMMING SKILLS No longer by just Sending & Receiving Mails and SURFING the net.

Forget

the English vocabulary for a while

rather remember the IT words and their preface. Make them use in your day to day life.

Say for Example:

bandwidth: blog: blogger: bluetooth: broadband: browser: As commonand many more to follow.

DIGITAL
NATIVE
Using Google Docs As A Teacher All Leave your thumb drive behind. Get rid of the need for attachments in email. Avoid multiple copies. Have a class of students working on the same document simultaneously. Get them collaborating with ease. Forget about your red pen. Simplify. Do your stuff online with Google Docs. The only requisite is you need to have a gmail account.

Most schools promote learning for global citizens and educating children who are thinkers but what are schools actually doing to move from theory into practice. 21st CENTURY EDUCATOR does not mean only Using a

SMART CLASSROOM

23

In the next FIVE years things are going to change more than what they have changed in the last 50 years. After 2 years, you shall find this system prevalent in every school- then why not BE THE FIRST.

Integrating Thinking Skills into the Classroom

Functionality of blogs allows a two way dialogue to happen between the writer and reader Comments, questions and feedback allow work and ideas to be developed over time The additional functionality of RSS allows you to see when sites from all over the internet have added new content as soon as it is published, without having to visit each site every day

RSS (most commonly expanded as "Really Simple Syndication") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated workssuch as blog

The

opportunities for educators are far different than just a decade ago. The use of ICT enables us to collaborate and access knowledge and expertise unthinkable in the recent past
practice is often NOT different than a decade ago of the Digital Divide between Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants

Educational

Rise

Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time.
Rabbinical Saying
27

Our Digital Immigrant instructors, who speak an outdated language (that of the pre-digital age), are struggling to teach a population that speaks an entirely new language.
Natives are used to the instantaneity of hypertext, downloaded music, phones in their pockets, a library on their laptops, beamed conversations and instant messaging. Theyve been networked most or all of their lives.

28

Forget

the English vocabulary rather remember the IT words and their preface. Make them use in your day to day life.
Say for Example: bandwidth: blog: blogger: bluetooth: broadband: browser: As commonand many more to follow.

So if Digital Immigrant educators really want to reach Digital Natives e.g. all their students they will have to change. Its high time for them to stop their grousing, and as the Nike motto of the Digital Native generation says, Just do it! They will succeed in the long run and their successes will come that much sooner if their administrators support them.
