Why do you coach?

Could you play for you? If you were one of your players, would you enjoy playing for yourself?

20 years from now, what will your players remember about you. If all they remember is football, you failed them. Teach them how to be men.

Exit- Release from the line, make it look like a pass. Have to have first 5 yards be hardoff line looking the same as every other route.
o

Explode- Explode to an arm’s length away and then “Come to balance” Don’t say break down because they stop then. Come to balance means feet are moving, guns are in their holsters ready to strike.
o

Engage- Don’t engage until with in an arms length. Delay throwing the block as long as possible. The shorter a block has to be held the more successful it will be.
o

Extend- Aim for the nipples, thumbs up. Extend arms all the way out after a strong punch and control the man.

Perimeter blocking is zone blocking in space. Take the man where he wants to go and let therunning back make a cut.

When teaching, start with the end in mind. Teach starting from an arm’s length away and teachthe end before teaching the approach.
