Chronological Bibliographyof the works of MICHEL FOUCAULT- This bibliography lists all known publications of Michel Foucault in aCHRONOLOGICAL order which is as strict as possible. All items are listed according totheir first known date of publications or coming into being:- books and articles are normally dated on the date (month) of the publication of thefirst printed edition;- interviews, conversations and discussions are dated on the date of recording, whenthis date is unknown the date of publication is used.;- lectures and interventions are mentioned on the day on which they are held;- overviews and transcriptions of the lectures at the
Collège de France
, which werenormally held between the beginning of January and April or May, are dated at thebeginning of each year contrary to the system used in
 Dits et écrits
(see for example1976)
;
.- all interventions, bookreviews and articles in newspapers are dated on the day of issue;- when dating is not possible (mostly in the case of forewords or presentations of books), the system of
 Dits et écrits
is used, i.e. they are mentioned at the beginning of theyear of issue after the lectures at the
Collège de France
.For some datations the
Chronologie
of the life of Michel Foucault established by DanielDefert has been used (see
 Dits et écrits
vol I, pp. 9-64).- Included in this bibliography are the transcripts or excerpts of the lectures, known to me.Not included, yet, are the lectures recorded on tape and available to the public at theFoucault Centre in Paris; in a next version we will try to incorporate them.- NOT INCLUDED are:(a) notes and petitions;(b) translations made by Foucault;(c) statements of Foucault quoted or recorded by others;(d) re-editions and translations.(see the 'Complément bibliographique' by Jacques Lagrange, in
 Dits et écrits
IV,pp.829-838).- References are made to the original title and source of publication; exception is made forthe Japanese and Spanish articles, lectures and interviews (
 Dits et écrits
is mostly used hereas first source).<number> = reference to the numeration used in Michel Foucault
 Dits et écrits
, 4 volumes,edited by Daniel Defert & François Ewald (Paris: Gallimard, 1994), volume I= no. 1 - 71,volume II = no. 72 - 165,volume III = no. 166 - 274,volume IV = no. 275 - 364.B = bookM = manuscript

 * = publication not included in
 Dits et Ecrits
; in most cases they are mentioned in the'Complément bibliographique' by Jacques Lagrange, in
 Dits et Ecrits
IV,pp.829-838.This bibliography was established by Machiel Karskens
