1944-1947 Info on Germany.

By

For my project I needed to gather information round the 1950s in Germany, which is where the book is set as well as the game environment that I am designing, but due to that time period in the country it was very hard to find lots photographs that could help paint the picture of what Berlin looked like back then. I have found some previous images in my work but to really get to see what Berlin look like I've had to go to the 1940s to get an idea and image of Berlin in that time. After the war Berlin was not in a good condition, the country was divided and had been heavily under fire from all sides so the city was very destroyed. The documentary DVDs helped give me insight into the city as well as the images and facts from the books that will help tell me what it was like.
I have also watched the film The spy who came in from the cold by Martin Ritt, (1965). The film helped give me a tone and feel for what the shadows and mood of the environment should be like but unfortunately the scenes in Germany that are in the book are cut really short and are in one location that doesn't show you the city at all.

DVD 1) The world at war_ reckoning 1945and after , by Sir Laurence Olivier ,(1973) The documentary just summed up what happened after the war from all the different countries perspectives, also showed that in the following years to come the countries were rebuilding and fixing what had been destroyed. DVD 2) The world at war_ nemesis : Germany February _May 1945, by Sir Laurence Oliver ,(1973) (No buildings were left intact in Berlin, 9/10 story high houses) These were some of the facts the documentary had told me of the city , it also gave a good visual insight into that time and what the next year or so would be like.

DVD 3) The world at war_ inside the Reich: Germany 1940-1944, by Sir Laurence Oliver ,(1973) The documentary had good images that show Germany near the end of the war.
