Request background
This request seeks information on the use of web browsers and social media by Australian Government agencies. This information is useful to the public and to organisations seeking to engage with Australian Government agencies and statutory bodies as it clarifies any limitations in approaches or technical architecture. For example Organisational websites designed for use in modern web browsers may not be viewable as intended within agencies that use old and superseded web browsers. Organisations using online video or social media services to share important information may have to consider alternative mechanisms to engage agencies that block these services. This request has been sent to all Australian Government agencies and bodies eligible for FOI, as listed in the Office of the Information Commissioner FOI Annual Report for 2010-11, Appendix L: Agencies and Ministers subject to the FOI act as at 1 July 2011 1. If your organisation has received multiple requests, due to having subagencies and committees listed separately in the Office of the Information Commissioner's list, they may be responded to in a consolidated manner. The information and correspondence received through this FOI request will be published on a public site (www.foiaustralia.net.au not yet live), together with a list of FOI contacts for Australian Government agencies for the use of the public, vendors, other agencies and the media. This information will be made freely available to the public to support citizens and organisations to contact and engage Australian Government agencies. A Creative Commons By Attribution copyright will be applied to the information. Additional FOI requests may be undertaken to clarify information or seek updates on information provided by respondents.
