Rabbis Message
Every time we take out the Torah from the
Aron Hakodesh, from the ark in the synagogue, we
say the words vayehi binsoa haaron vayomer
Moshe kuma Hashem and when they lifted
the ark, Moshe said arise Hashem - the special
prayer Moshe would say when the Ark would
travel with the Jews in the desert. Based on the up-
side-down nun letters that surround these verses in
the Torah, the Talmud tells us that this section of
the Torah is a book unto itself. The message in the
creation of a special book of the Torah from G-d dis-
cussing the movement of the Aron is that one must
have guidance, instruction, and understanding from
G-d to make the Torah a moving force.
Tomorrow night we will honor two couples
who have been a moving force in our shul, two cou-
ples who, thus, help to make Torah and Jewish life a
moving force in our community. They take their
cues from on High, but their impact is felt here on
earth. This Shabbos we take the opportunity to say
thank you to the Cohens and the Lugers for helping
to make Young Israel of West Hartford the vibrant
place that it is.
My experience here over the last two and a
half years would not have been the same without
Tsion, Anita, Steve, and Debbie. You are truly spe-
cial to me, to Elana, to Joseph, and to our shul. I
learn so much from the four of you and through the
hard work and love that you put in to your jobs,
families, and community on a daily basis you inspire
me to continue in my own work on behalf of our
wonderful shul. Thanks for all you do!
Mazal tov to the honorees and their families.
Mazal tov to our shul: A great place that we call our
second home. A great place that helps us to grow as
Jews, as friends, and as people. To many more years
together!
Shabbat Shalom
Rabbi Brahm Weinberg

YIWH BOARD PROGRAM NOTE

March 2012/Adar 5772

The Board of the Young Israel of West Hartford is so very proud to celebrate the value of (and
values of) our honorees, Anita & Tsion Cohen, and Debbie & Steven Luger. You have been, and
very much actively are, extraordinary pillars of our community.

Tomorrows Gems and Jewels Gala Dinner marks a special occasion for celebration, reflection,
and rededication. Like our honorees tonight, jewels are precious, enduring and rare. Like our
spiritual leader Rabbi Weinberg, jewels delight us with universal appeal and spectacular bril-
liance. And like our own congregation, the source of a jewels sparkle and enchantment are its
many beautiful facets.

Looking around at the individuals and institutions which make up our community we feel im-
mense humility and appreciation. Looking back at our communitys history of continuous
achievement gives us inspiration and courage. Looking forward we stand united, confident in a
future of only Strength to Strength, of bigger and better chapters still yet to come. This vision
is possibly only because of you because of your efforts, your donations of time and money,
your passion, commitment, and dedication. We salute you, and are deeply grateful for your par-
ticipation in this dinner.

True, we all have given, but we all have benefited a thousand times more. And while tonight we
celebrate contributions of all kinds to our synagogue, especially the quiet, tireless, and reso-
lute actions of our honorees, we must also specially recognize the unparalleled and incredible
team that verily has made tonight possible:

The leaders of the YIWH Dinner Committee have apparently bent the laws of nature in an effort
to make the dinner a success. Shayne Kesler, Harriet Rosenblit, and Fran Wittenberg as well as
their wonderful dinner committee have put in countless hours planning in dozens of meetings,
in seeking out donations, in sometimes blindly soliciting door to door in rain and shine. We all
owe them a permanent debt of gratitude for their impossibly ambitious and heroic efforts, al-
beit labors of love in their own minds. They are directly and entirely responsible for everything
this dinner has accomplished. Our sincerest thanks and admiration.

Tomorrow night we celebrate, reflect, and rededicate. Indeed, lets celebrate the amazing hon-
orees we are privileged to call friends. Lets reflect on the significance of this gathering as it
reveals the vast potential of our congregation. And lastly lets rededicate ourselves to continue
working together, for each other, and towards our bright, tangible, communal future. May we
always carry with us the optimism and perspective we are blessed to share tonight,

Sincerely, The Board of the Young Israel of West Hartford
