C/SrA Shelby McMahonDuring the second MCCSmeeting of October, our safetyofficer held a class at Lt. Man-gano's home. Our Safety Of-fice and my dad, Lt. MichaelMcMahon, currently works as ahigh-rise safety consultant inChicago. His job is to set upclasses and train people whowork in high-rise buildings inthe city. In addition, he sets upevacuation plans and other re-quired plans for businesses inhigh rises. A little over a year-and-a-half ago my fatherworked as a Fire Department Engineer. He worked at En-gine 70 in Chicago, IL. After 21 years of service to the Chi-cago Fire Department, my dad retired and now works as asafety consultant. He is the Vice President of Quality FireProtection Inc.At the meeting my dad taught the cadets and senior memberswho did not know how to put a small fire out using fire ex-tinguishers. He taught us what types of extinguishers thereare and how they worked. It was a learning experience beingable to pull the pin and push the handle to put out a small firein the back of Lt. Mangano's home. We were all able to takea turn and get a good feel on how to use a fire extinguisher. The whole squadron and myself are grateful and thank Lt.Mangano for her hospitality and allowing us to use her homefor this event. We also thank those who brought the refresh-ments and the food. The hotdogs were delicious, as wellwere the marshmallows!
