Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and Happy Holidays to all!You and your family will be at the Award’s Banquet, of course. This will be a wonderfultime of celebration. Celebration for you and your accomplishments both within and out-side of CAP.For your enjoyment, we have scheduled a very special key note speaker from NationalHeadquarters CAP who will address, what else?… LEADERSHIP! In addition, the WingCommander, Col. Maurice Givens, will also be in attendance. We are very fortunate thathe will take the time to attend this MCCS event. I am sure he receives invitations everydayand he can’t possibly attend all of them. The most special guests, however, will be you. It is impossible to express my pride in eachone of you. We are a team. Each of you is an expression and extension of our team effort.Thank you all, lets keep up the effort as we have set a high bar for success.Best regards to you and yours,
Major Rhonda Anderson

1st Lt Doris ManganoWhat a successful day - over $ 900.00 in just 5 hours of our time! Its better than door todoor sales as many organization do. Plus the community sees us in our uniforms! All of this money (1st Lt Freund is selling leftover candy at her school so the exact amountis not known yet) will be used to assist cadets with NCSA and encampments. All of thecadets who participated in this event will receive automatically $25.00 more toward theiractivity. They put in the work and they deserve more.Come join me again in fundraising at the K-Marts April 8th, 2006, 11-4pm. This time, allthe money will be put toward our trip in 2007. Where are we going? Either to Colorado orto San Diego in June 2007. The week-long trip will not be as hectic as Washington, DC.Some ideas include for the San Diego trip visiting the world’s largest zoo, swimming in thePacific Ocean and visiting or staying on one of the largest US Naval Bases, even seeing Dis-neyland. For the Colorado trip, visiting the USAF Academy, mountains for hiking, evenhorseback riding. Think about which trip you prefer. I will be asking this June for whichtrip because they take a year to plan. But lets get a “nest egg” started for next year withApril 8th selling candy. Thanks to Lts. Freund and Medina for being there with the cadets!

C/1st Lt Maria ManganoIn the beginning of November the cadet staff expanded. Notonly were additional cadet staff members added, but addi-tional positions as well. I would like to discuss the new posi-tions with you, so you know about these positions and who togo to if you have questions. The Cadet Executive Officer is a member of executive staff, and is in charge of managing support staff. Support staff is agroup of cadets who assist senior members in performingtheir duties. Such positions include: communications, emer-gency services, aerospace education, and administrative, among others. Our cadet executive officer, Cadet Freund, isresponsible for the cadets who hold these positions and tomake sure they fulfill their duties. The executive officerrepresents the support staff and acts as an advisor to the cadetcommander. The Flight Commander is traditionally only in charge of oneflight, but in our case, Cadet DeCraene has two flight ser-geants working under him. This works well for MCCS be-cause the flights are split into advanced versus basic, whichallows for more specific training. Cadet DeCraene ensurescadets are progressing and oversees the flight sergeants. The Flight Sergeants are responsible for the members of theirflights. Cadet J. Hendler works with Zulu flight on advanceddrill and ceremonies. Cadet McMahon teaches Romeo flightand the new cadets. Each flight sergeant works directly withtheir cadets and is responsible for cadet progression and par-ticipation.The Cadet Administrative Officer is in charge of cadet paper-work. 1Lt Medina has been overwhelmed with cadet paper-work and asked for the assistance of Cadet Freund. CadetFreund is now in charge of reviewing CAPF-50s and promo-tion contracts among cadets. She has been working diligentlythe last few weeks to straighten out the cadet paperwork. The Cadet Aerospace Education Officer, myself, is responsi-ble for assisting the Senior AEO (2Lt Kalemis) in teachingaerospace education, both internally and externally. The C/AEO answers Aerospace Module questions for Phase I and IIcadets and mentors them through the cadet program. The Cadet Logistics Officer, Cadet Freund, will be assisting1Lt Medina with supply. When new cadets receive their uni-forms, Cadet Freund will show them how to properly wearthe uniform, help them select their uniform from the squad-rons supply and inform them of the uniform parts they needto order. Our Cadet Emergency Services Officer, Cadet DeCraene, reports to 2Lt Kalemis when working on ES training. Prepar-ing presentations, teaching classes, and demonstrating properES techniques are all part of the job. Educating cadets aboutEmergency Services and telling them how to earn a 101 cardare addition responsibilities of the C/Emergency ServicesOfficer. As you can see, cadets who hold support staff positions assisttheir senior counterparts in completing their jobs. This givescadet officers a chance to learn new skills and lessens the du-ties of senior members.Cadet Commander: C/1st Lt Maria ManganoExecutive Officer: C/2d Lt Krystal FreundFirst Sergeant: C/SMSgt Emily MedinaFlight Commander: C/CMSgt Steven DeCraeneRomeo Flight Sergeant: C/SrA Shelby McMahonZulu Flight Sergeant: C/SSgt Jared HendlerColor Guard Commander: C/TSgt Brian FreundAdministrative Officer: C/2d Lt Krystal FreundAerospace Education Officer: C/1st Lt Maria ManganoEmergency Services Officer: C/SMSgt Steven DeCraeneLogistics Officer: C/2d Lt Krystal FreundPhysical Training Officer: C/SSgt Jared Hendler

On November 12th, Cadet Maria Mangano received herGold Award, the highest Award in Girl Scouts equivalent tothe Eagle Award in Boy Scouts. Only 6% of Girl Scouts ob-tain this award. The Gold Award needed a minimum of 65service hours to complete. Cadet Mangano put in around600 hours. She organized an NCOA/Basic Cadet School atGreat Lakes Naval Station for Group 22 and Group 14 ca-dets.The Ceremony took place at United Methodist Church inMarengo. It focused on the growth aspects made to the girlduring this leadership challenge. Speakers were Pastor Dr.Steve Bullmer from United Methodist Church, Marengo, andMajors Ken and Rhonda Anderson of McHenry CountyComposite Squadron.Cadet Mangano spent 1 year doing preliminary work whichrequired her to complete 7 different areas in association withher actual project. Each of the 7 areas needed communityservice hours. She fulfilled 5 of the 7, focusing on the needsof McHenry County Composite Squadron. The Leadership requirement was fulfilled by serving as thesquadron First Sergeant for 10 months. The Senior GirlScout Challenge was to work 15 hours on a project that wasimportant to her. She noted at the squadron that cadet atten-dance decreased during PT night. The cadets thought PT wasuninteresting, she discovered after initiating a questionnaireShe researched games, and along with Major Ken Anderson, developed a new curriculum. She found cadet attendanceincreased after instituting this new program. For the PublicRelations requirement she submitted an article to the North-west Herald about the Color Guard Competition of spring2005 for McHenry County Composite Squadron. For theCareer Exploration requirement she needed to attend a ca-reer activity, and met this requirement by going to E-Tech, July 04, a NCSA. For the Science Requirement she taught inlocal libraries, to Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops variousaspects of aerospace. She received letters of recognition from Dr. Sally Ride, thefirst woman astronaut, President Bush, Illinois Govenor RodBlagojevich and Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois.Cadet Mangano has completed high school and is attendingMcHenry County College to receive her Associates in Sci-ence Degree. She will further her education working towardher PhD in Science with the ultimate goal to become an as-tronaut.
