Images of Goa - Ben Antao

Images of Goa - Ben Antao

"In this book, Ben Antao gambols along with his characters in the villages, revealing their eccentricities in all their nuances, their beliefs and aspirations, with a felicity that comes so easily to him as a competent writer. Getting into a flashback mode seems even sweeter to him as it frees his spirit to touch on subjects that obviously mean a lot to him. Just short of total obsession, he seems to revel in such true memories, told in a style of his own, and in an interestingly charming way.

Goa has to be seen through its villages, where religious fervour, singing and dancing and even a flirtatious moment, fuse into a pleasant alchemy of harmony, peace and serenity. The one reason, perhaps, for Goans earning the tag of susegado, often wrongly interpreted as being lazy and easy going. But then, that’s the soul of the village and that's what Ben has sought to portray here in all its richness."
