"Bad" vs. "Good" research "Bad" research either . . .

1) Fails to go beyond the textbook or generally accepted information Example: Legalism was a form of government that believed in harsh punishments and strict rules (Qin Dynasty). 2) Uses cites that are suspect or too simplistic Example: Qin Shi Huangdi was the best Chinese ruler ever (We Luv Shi Huangdi). OR Example: Qin Shi Huangdi was the best Chinese ruler ever (Wikipedia). 3) Fails to WEAVE sources together and just puts a lot of information from one source into a single paragraph. Also, this fails to take into account your ideas at the end of paragraphs! Example: Although this helped to create scholars within their area, this left them at a constant risk of invaders. One of the famous emperors of the Song dynasty was Emperor Xioazang. When he took power, he worked towards trying to recover land that had been stolen by outside invaders. However, even his efforts were not enough, and they failed to accomplish this goal. This shows that leaders are vital to the development of a country (Li Po). _____________________________________________________________________________ "Good" research tends to . . . 1) Go BEYOND the textbook or generally accepted information Example: Coins were also minted for improving trade. They were called Ban Liang Cons (Qin). 2) Use a variety of sources; if possible, start with iolani.org and stay away from google searches. 3) WEAVE sources together, making sure to follow research with your own comments. Example: The entire burial site was modeled after the Xinntang palace and was originally located in an enclosed "spirit city" (Mandate). Shi huangdi was surprisingly a very spiritual emperor. He made regualr sacrifices to gods at sacred places (Shi Huangdi).
