Narrative
On 03-09-2012 at approximately 0839 hours, officers A. Fowler #819, T. Runnels #171, R. Feemster #748 and I (Hanlon #325) responded to gate C29 in reference to a disturbance onboard an aircraft, departing American Airlines flight # 2332. While being dispatched, it was reported the flight attendant had stated over the PA system that the plane was not going to take off before it crashes. Upon our arrival, we were advised by the Captain of the aircraft, Dale Benedict, that the lead flight attendant, later identified as Teresa Green, was involved in an altercation with some passengers and was currently being restrained by them in a seat in first class. I observed several passengers restraining Ms. Green in the first row, and she was combative, screaming for them to leave her alone. For my safety and the safety of the passengers, and because she was combative and acting irrational, I immediately handcuffed the flight attendant. The flight attendant continued being combative and resisting our attempts to take her off the aircraft. Once we got her off the aircraft, she continued to resist, and made a comment about a co-worker being killed on 09-11-2001, when her plane went through the tower. Our attempts to calm her down and talk to her were unsuccessful. DPS Paramedic Magee arrived on scene and tried to talk to Ms. Green. Ms. Green attempted to spit on him, but was turned away by us and wound up hitting the jet bridge wall with her spit. Due to Ms. Green trying to kick us while being restrained, we had to put her in leg restraints. It was determined Ms. Green was having a mental episode and was a danger to herself and/or others if not immediately taken into custody. She was transported to Parkland Hospital by Officers Feemster and Fowler for evaluation. During the investigation it was determined another flight attendant, Libia Marquez Zoche had been injured due to being kicked in the abdomen while trying to assist the passengers in restraining Ms. Green. She was transported by EMS (Paramedics Henson and Magee) to Baylor Grapevine Hospital for treatment. Ms. Zoche stated Ms. Green was being treated for bipolar disorder and had told her she had not been taking her medication. Ms. Zoche advised she did not wish to pursue assault charges against Ms. Green. FBI agents Esselbach and Hoffman arrived on scene and advised they were not going to pursue charges against Ms. Green because it was obviously caused by her mental episode.
