CACTUS LEAGUE ACTION:
The Padres enter today’s game at3-7...over the Spring slate, the Friars play a total of 34 games inArizona before heading home for a workout on 4/2 followed bytwo games against the Royals (4/3 at Petco Park and 4/4 in LakeElsinore)...the club’s Cactus League schedule includes five remain-ing split-squad games (March 14, 18, 24, 27, 31).
LAST TIME OUT:
The Padres fell to the Rockies yesterday atScottsdale by a score of 11-2…leading the offensive charge forSan Diego was Cameron Maybin who connected for his first of theSpring on a leadoff homer to start the game before also doublingand scoring another run…LHP Cory Luebke made the start andworked 3.0 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and one walkwhile striking out two…RHP Jeff Suppan also worked 3.0 innings,allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk.
TODAY’S STARTER:
RHP Edinson Volquez make his secondSpring start today against the White Sox…made his first CactusLeague start on 3/8 vs. the Giants, working 2.0 innings in that gameand allowing one run on two hits.
LOS CUATRO FABULOSOS:
INFs Jonathan Galvez, EdinsonRincon and Jeudy Valdez and OF Rymer Liriano have combinedthus far this Spring to go 18-for-41 (.439) with 12 doubles and 13runs scored.
FORK IN THE ROAD:
The Padres play their second split squadtomorrow, traveling both to Scottsdale to face the Dbacks andGoodyear to face the Reds…will have four remaining split squadsafter tomorrow before the end of Spring (March 18, 24, 27, 31).
ROSTER MOVES:
The Padres yesterday reassigned five playersto minor league camp, including Cs Ali Solis and Eddy Rodriguez,INF Cory Spangenberg and RHPs Cory Burns and Jorge Reyes…with those moves, the club now has 56 players in Big Leaguecamp...with a full 40-man roster and 16 non-roster invitees, thesquad currently features 27 pitchers (eight southpaws), five catch-ers, 14 infielders and 10 outfielders...entering camp, the club has16 players on the 40-man roster who were not at the beginning of2011 Spring Training.
THE FUTURE:
Seven of the Padres Top 10 prospects, accordingto
Baseball America,
are currently in Big League camp...that listincludes INF Yonder Alonso (1), C Yasmani Grandal (2), OF RymerLiriano (3), RHP Casey Kelly (4), INF Jedd Gyorko (7), RHP JoeWieland (8) and LHP Robbie Erlin (9)...
Baseball America’s 
rankingof the Top 100 prospects in baseball also included Alonso (33),Grandal (53), Kelly (76) and Gyorko (98)…in total, the club had sixplayers featured in the top 100 which were tied for the most amongall clubs (also, Athletics, Cardinals and Rangers).
ROOKIE ROUND-UP:
24 of the 56 players currently in camp willqualify as rookies in the 2012 season, with 13 of those 24 on the40-man roster...the 13 consist of Brad Brach, Erik Hamren, NickVincent, Jose De Paula, Juan Oramas, Yasmani Grandal, JamesDarnell, Andy Parrino, Edinson Rincon, Cory Spangenberg, JeudyValdez, Rymer Liriano and Blake Tekotte.
PADRES ON THE RADIO:
Each day there is a Padres game, youwill be able to hear it broadcast in English on 1090 AM or 1700...one game will be broadcast on days there are split squad games...the action will be brought to you by Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman,Andy Masur and newcomer Bob Scanlan...in addition, all Saturdayand Sunday games will be broadcast in Spanish on AM 860, withEduardo Ortega and Juan Avila calling the action.

The Padres, Mariners and city of Peoria an-nounced an extension earlier this month, keeping Spring Trainingbaseball at the Peoria Sports Complex until 2034...the Padres havecalled Peoria home since relocating from Yuma in 1994.
11,000 PADRES:
The Little League season has kicked off in SanDiego, with players all over the county sporting their new Padresuniforms thanks to the club’s Youth Baseball Initiative...the programhas supplied over 11,600 Little Leaguers with Padres uniforms,representing 20 different styles from throughout the club’s history.
