Rebecca Morel How does your media product represent particular social groups? Our character (Anya) Dr.

Kate McKiernan (from

Kiss The Girls)

The character I have decided to compare with our main character from the main task is called Dr. Kate McKiernan, from the film Kiss The Girls (1997). Her basic background is she wakes up after being kidnapped in dark, cave-like surrounding, tided and held hostage by an unknown man named only Casanova. Kate manages to only just escape him by jumping from cliff into a river below. Similarities I chose this character because I believe she has many similar features to the main female character in our production, named Anya. For example, their role causes them to both wake up to find themselves in a very similar situation; they recover consciousness to find they are bound and locked in a small dark room. This is the initial introduction of both characters. Prior to this, they both manage to escape from where they are being held (by men) and make it outside before setting off into a desperate run to escape. The location where both characters imprisoned is very similar. Once they find away out of the room/cave into he open air, they are in a very countryside based environment, with natural aspects such as woods, tress and green fields. Although, Kates setting is more based on a

The appearance of the characters is also relatively similar, beginning with the simple fact that they are both women. Both have dark hair, clipped back out of their faces, yet it is tangled and knotted from the running during their escapes. They have dirt and make-up also smudged down their faces. Both also constrain strong independent characterisations, as they manage to escape just on their own. Differences However, there are a surprising amount of differenced between the characters that make our character, Anya, unique. We never actually see Anya completely escape from her captor; as right at the end she ends up running straight into him. Kate manages to fight off her captor and jump of a cliff in order to escape. Kate does have a small fight midway through her escape with the kidnapper, as we never see Anya actually grabbed; until the end where it blacks out. Kates escape was much more violent. When we first see Anya, she is wearing a blouse, skirt and leggings; as if she has been out the night she was taken. This contrasts with Kates plain, simple clothing of a vest, sweater and long shorts, a more casual approach to costuming; she was most likely staying at home when she was kidnapped.
