Overview
Ofcial Arrival Ceremony
Today, President Barack Obama hosts Prime Minister o theUnited Kingdom o Great Britain and Northern Ireland DavidCameron at the White House or an Ocial Visit and a StateDinner. This marks the sixth State or Ocial Visit o the ObamaAdministration, ater visits by India in 2009 (November), Mexicoin 2010 (May), China in 2011 (January), Germany in 2011 (June) andKorea in 2011 (October).The President and First Lady have invited more than 450 studentsages 8 to 18 rom the Washington area to help welcome theUnited Kingdom delegation at this arrival ceremony. Groups inattendance include the British School o Washington, DC; TheSEED School o Washington, DC; St. Anselm’s Abbey School o Washington, DC; and Hollin Meadows Science and Math FocusSchool o Alexandria, VA.The First Lady has also invited young women or an event ocusingon the importance o the UK Ocial Visit that will take placeprior to the evening’s State Dinner. Guests invited to this eventinclude students rom Elizabeth Seton High School in Maryland,National Cathedral School in Washington, DC and the ElizabethGarrett Anderson School (EGA), a secondary school or girls inNorth London. EGA, whose students will also attend the arrival ceremony, hasa special history with Mrs. Obama. In April o 2009, the FirstLady accompanied the President to London on their rst ocialinternational trip together. While there, the First Lady paid asurprise visit to EGA, where students are encouraged to “Learn,Achieve, Discover and Perorm Without Limits.” During this visit,Mrs. Obama praised the girls or their dedication to education andleadership in their communities and encouraged them to reach ortheir dreams. In February 2010, the First Lady invited a group o London students to the White House—including one rom EGA— who won a U.S. Embassy Black History Month essay contest. Mrs.Obama also spoke to EGA students at the University o Oxordin May 2011, as part o a day-long “college immersion” visit, andencouraged them to continue working towards their goals.

At the event, Mrs. Obama announced thatshe will be leading the Presidential Delegation to the OpeningCeremonies o the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
