COURSE DESCRIPTION: Provides the technical knowledge and skills needed to successfully plan, execute and evaluate IT projects. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: Understand what project management means and how it improves the success of information technology projects; Demonstrate knowledge of project management terms, such as: The triple constraint of project management, The project management knowledge areas and process groups, The project life cycle; Demonstrate knowledge of the tools and techniques of project management, such as: Project selection methods, Work breakdown structures, Network diagrams, critical path analysis, and critical chain scheduling, Cost estimates, Earned value management, Motivation theory and team building; Use Microsoft Office Project 2010 and other software to help plan and manage a small project; Appreciate the importance of good project management: Share examples of good and bad project management, Use knowledge and skills developed in this class in other settings. Graded work that has been returned should also be kept until the final grade for the course has been received. A Guideline For Writing Effective Article Critiques


REQUISITES: Critiques should be one to two pages in length. Single spaced, 1 Margins (all around), 12 pt. Times New Roman. Write the critique from the point of view of what you, if you were the author of the article, would find most beneficial as a response to your work. ARTICLE ATTRIBUTES. Provide the following (use these as side headings): 1. Title of Article 2. Source of Article 3. Author(s) of Article 4. Date of Publication 5. Target Audience 6. Focus/Subject/Topic of Article 7. Type of Article-Empirical-based Case-based Technical/Professional Arm Chair ABSTRACT: One paragraph summary of the major points emphasized by the author(s): 1. Significant points/findings 2. Purpose of the article CRITIQUE: Identify issue(s) and present an analytical evaluation of the article from: 1. A favorable view (you agree with author(s) findings and why), or an unfavorable view (you disagree or refute the author(s) findings and why), or a mixed critique with both favorable and unfavorable review; 2. Was the content of the article consistent with the title of the article? 3. Was the article written at the right level for the publication in which it appears? 4. Did the author(s) use the reference list appropriately, when provided? 5. Is the data/case/information dated (relevant)? 6. Would you use it as a reference in a research paper you were developing? RECOMMENDATIONS: What recommendations would you make to the author(s)? Would you make a copy of the article and give it to a colleague because of the value provided by the article? Why or why not?
