This past week’s Gems and Jewels Gala Dinnerwas a great moment of pride for our shul and I wouldlike to share some of my reflections with you.The dinner was an incredibly successful eventon so many levels. Firstly, it was financially successfulwhich is always nice. Secondly, it was a success be-cause I think people had a really great time and en-joyed themselves. But even more importantly, it was asuccess because it enabled all of us to be very proud ofwhat our shul stands for and of who we are. YIWH is aspecial place filled with great people and with aunique flavor that has shaped so many of our lives. Our shul,
bli ayin hara
, is in a great place right now: Itis thriving and growing and making its place onceagain in the broader community. There was a greatfeeling in the room at the dinner and a real energythat will help us continue along the great path wehave taken together. The committee worked so very hard to put it alltogether and they were able to run a first class affairthat was elegant but also “
” and in great taste. It was a different kind of dinner than people wereused to. It broke some new ground by having a scrollof honor and by having the program be in a separateroom where people could really focus on the honor-ees, the keynote speaker, and so much more. Thesenew innovations made the dinner a little bit different,a little bit avant-guard and perhaps will set trends forfuture dinners in the Hartford area.Part of what made the dinner so successful andso full of wonderful feelings were the honorees. TheCohens and Lugers are so much a part of everythingthat happens in our shul and have touched so many ofus in different ways that it was just a pleasure to comeout for them and give them the thanks they deserve. Iknow so many of you felt that way.I am happy to report that we had very close to
participation in t he dinner by everyone in ourshul in some way. Whether it was by coming, by do-nating to the scroll of honor, or volunteering time tohelp make calls or solicit from businesses etc… Thisfact is q
