Blended wing body (bwb) is a novel aircraft configuration offering significant performance advantages over modern, conventional, transonic transports. Aerodynamic problems unique to this class of airplane are investigated with the aim of designing an aerodynamically viable BWB configuration. The course of the preliminary design process using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and constrained inverse design methods (CDISC) is illustrated as it encounters critical challenges.
