Our third annual Wilderness Walk took place on Saturday, November the
8th at Sharp Springs Natural Area. Nearly 100 people participated in the
walk, almost twice as many as last year. Marty Rush, from the Wildlife
Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Juliet, brought a red-tailed hawk,
a groundhog, a kestrel, a screech owl and of course Waldo, the noisiest
crow in middle Tennessee, for everybody to check out. Also, Todd and
Brian from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency brought several fish
that they retrieved from Percy Priest Lake and later released into one of
our catch-and-release ponds at Sharp Springs. After a
leisurely walk on the greenway, our group of naturalists boarded a hayride
and returned to the Patti King O’Connor shelter for grilled hot dogs and
pizza. Pictured, at left, Addison and Macey O’Connell and Abbey Manus
play in the leaves while taking part in the walk. Thanks to everybody who
showed up this year and we look forward to doing this again in 2009.

Christmas Tree Recycling Program
