Rhodes Community Needs Analysis 3
available about the education level and income level of their families, it is possible to makeinferences about the information needs of the students. Since the target population is comprised of elementary school students, it is understood that these students are mainly using their schoollibrary to meet curricular goals. These school goals, such as the Scholastic Reading Counts program and other class work, were also taken into consideration. Since elementary students arenot able to make decisions about what they need from their school library, they must instead relyon others, their school librarian, to be fully aware of their information needs. The school library is the only library available to these children in their communities, andthe only library in the county that is available to them free of charge. If these children and their families wish to visit a public library they have two options. The Nevada Public Library in Nevada, MO is the only public library in Vernon County. If families from the NEVC schooldistrict wanted to go to the Nevada Public Library, they would have to pay $25 per family per year. The Cedar County Library in Eldorado Springs, MO would charge $10 per family per year for those outside of their boundaries. It is of interest whether or not the services currently provided, and the collection at the NEVC elementary school library, are adequate for the information needs of these school children. The method used to analyze this community is the Community Analysis Research Institute’s CARImethod. The community profile will be created by learning from community demographic andstatistic information, and school demographic and statistic information.Community Profile
