Its A Good Life Wasted

by Audrey Alexander (5 Setia) 2010 A perfect life. Some people are born with everything anyone would wish for good looks, physique, wealth, intellect, and loving parents. People like Ana Lee Curtis is one of them. Ana was born to rich parents, Robert Lee and Julie Curtis. Robert Lee is an oil tycoon whilst his wife owned a clothing line called, Fassion. Ana was their only child. She was showered with expensive gifts and luxuries, an average person could only dream of. Ana went to the best school in New York. When she did not feel like going to school, her parents hired private tutors to educate her in their posh pent house in Manhattan or their ridiculously large mansion in Beverly Hills. Ana was given all the attention she wanted and all the things she desired. She was dressed in the finest clothing, which were fit for celebrities or even royalty. At the age of eleven, Ana already owned several pairs of footwear from the Jimmy Choos collection! For her sixteenth birthday, Robert and Julie specially ordered custom made, red Lamborghini for their beloved daughter. The couple spent their money on Ana as though it fell from the sky endless. Apart from luxuries, Ana also possessed talents like dancing, singing, and acting. She excelled in everything that she pursued in. Her parents not only loved her unconditionally but they also gave her undivided support in whatever she had interest in. They wanted her to be happy and she was. Along the years, Ana collected many awards from the competitions she participated in. She was the admiration of many but also the envy of others. How could anyone be so perfect? To make matters even more interesting, Ana was a very beautiful girl. She had the exotic look that could capture everybodys attention. In addition, she possessed the height and body of a model. Very quickly, she became the adoration of the opposite sex around her. Girls surrounded her like ants not because they were sincerely interested in befriending her but just to hitch a ride on Anas fame and influence. Poor, rich Ana did not realise this. She was so nave. Despite having everything, she was very down-to-earth and she thought well of everyone. Ana failed to see the evil side of the world. Things took a toll for the worse when Anas father started having affairs with other women and her mother was on the verge of depression. All these affected Ana greatly and once news of her fathers cheating scandal broke out, people whom she thought were her friends, started distancing themselves from her. Her once perfect family was breaking apart. Life was beginning to become too harsh for Ana. She still had her wealth to fall back on but it was not enough for her. Money, could not buy lasting happiness. Ana started seeking refuge and comfort in older men and they soon took advantage of her. Ana was not oblivious to this fact but yet, she continued to allow them to. She became a party girl, while getting herself addicted to booze and drugs. Her parents were no longer there for her. Ana grew into a socialite and got involved with many men. She lived a life like this for a couple of years.

Then, on one fateful day, Ana was diagnosed with HIV, a fatal disease. Upon hearing this revelation, Anas world came crashing down on her. The weight of the world was now on her shoulders. Previously, she had no worries. Nothing had ever bothered her apart from her familys condition but now there was no turning back. Anas immune system was failing, so she spent most of her time in her parents mansion, feeling helpless. She now had all the time in the world to ponder and regret her actions in the past as she awaited her time to come. Ana often thought to herself, Why Why did I throw my life away? I had everything but now, I have AIDS. Money useless. Even her wealth could not heal her. Day by day, Ana grew more and more depressed. Her life was full of regrets. She was a scholar, talented in many aspects, beautiful like an angel and she was ultra-rich. In spite of that, this was where she wound up by the window, holed up in her room, suffering miserably from an incurable disease. Ana now wished she had made good use of the gifts she was born with. However, it was too late. On one rainy day, Ana sat by her window again, watching the raindrops fall. She felt like the weather, gloomy and sad. The world now seemed like a very cruel place for Ana Lee Curtis. Ana could clearly see her own reflection on the window. Instead of a beautiful, cheerful, and radiant face, Ana saw a haggard, hideous and miserable-looking person staring back at her. Living with AIDS stripped her off her natural beauty. She was thin and frail, much like a walking skeleton. It was a depressing sight for Ana. Thus, she started sobbing hysterically, once again, regretting her behaviour in the past. The very next day, the gardener got the shock of his life. He found Anas lifeless body lying on the pavement outside in a pool of dried blood. Pieces of shattered glass from her window surrounded her dead body. Life was too agonising for her to endure much longer so she took the easy way out by committing suicide. The news of Anas death quickly made the headlines. A famous newspaper wrote a column about her with the heading, Its A Good Life, Wasted.
