 Michigan Licensing Requirement Proposed Changes
We have one of the lowest licensing standards of any
state in terms of “required” hours. Sentiment is
strong among Realtors that more education and amore applicable curriculum will result in more pro-fessionalism. A Michigan Association of RealtorsPresidential Advisory Group was formed in 2011 toexamine the current license laws in the state and rec-ommend needed changes. Those recommendationswere then sent to the Real Estate Education ReformTask Force for suggested legislative changes to raisethe bar at all licensure levels. The following represents some the more importantrecommended changes being proposed for legislationin 2012:
Real Estate Salespersons
40 hour core course for license examination;Additional 40 hours of approved course topics prior to issuance of license (total 80 hours)
Continuing Education for all Licensees
36 total hours over a three-year cycle, whichincludes 3 hours of legal update annually;9 hours (18 hours for
new
salesperson licensecycle) of total 36 hours will be measuredmodules (tested) over 3-year cycle.Watch for further newsletter updates regarding these proposedchanges to educationalrequirements for licensees. We will have a clearer picture of this matter by the end of the year .

In order to accommodate the 135 agents at Keller Williams Lakeside, Team Leader, Tom Kotzian, had to find another venue to hold the monthly meetings. The company had outgrown itsclassroom facility. The March meeting was held at Crank's "Enchantment Banquet Center" inShelby Twp, as will be all future monthly meetings. A breakfast precedes every meeting. Featuredspeakers at the March 13th Team Meeting were Ralph "Skip" Maccarone(company attorney and former Shelby Twp.
