About our Study The Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (CSTE) at BU School of Medicine is conducting nationally renowned, state-of-the-art research examining current and former professional and amateur athletes who are at risk for developing the neurodegenerative disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). This disease is caused by repetitive brain trauma (including concussions and subconcussive blows) and has been the focus of many of the changes in public awareness and policy.
