As Universities and Industry highly value the ability to connect with team-mates, clients and/ or an audience, the purpose of this Assignment is to help you gain the crucial skills to be successful in Job Interviews, leading professional Presentations, and to confidently share your ideas in Meetings and Pitchs1. You will receive coaching on how to communicate to an audience from experienced Lecturers, Enjoy Presentings Alan Donegan and other industry professionals2 throughout the Unit. You will carry out research into your chosen genre of Music Videos and document your work using Vlogs, Podcasts and/ or Written reports on a Blog whilst maintaining a Research blog throughout the project. Saphu, you have identified and selected information from a range of sources. You have read through and selected quotes to support your arguments in your posts on different media debates and in your Written Report. You managed to get this criteria via the extension activities in class (e.g. Scroobius Pip, London riots etc.) To achieve this you need to select and use information from a range of sources e.g. books and websites to help your Music Video Analysis. The quotes extracted need to be relevant and precise in their use e.g. to back up a point you are making. To get the D1 you need to extract comprehensive information from written sources e.g. books, magazines, interviews from TV that are relevant to your essay. If you select, review and apply information to your written analysis on Hip-hop from at least 5 pieces of information from a wide range of sources that is focused and demonstrates precision and accuracy you will get the D1 A written analysis has been produced which conveys relevant information analysing three music videos.

To achieve the M2 you need to look at your essay and take care to ensure it is structured and detailed. You need to analyse your three music videos discussing codes/conventions, genre, narrative and representation with clarity and conciseness. There is some attempt at observations and exemplification of ideas but you need to pay attention to the model answer and use it to structure your essay. Saphu, to achieve the D2 you need to look over your final draft and ensure that it is well-structured (follows the model answers guidelines) and substantial (include genre, narrative and representation and a conclusion). Your written analysis report needs to provides precise exemplification of three music videos with supporting arguments support by a range of media theories e.g. narrative theories like Todorov, Propp, Barthes You need detailed and in-depth analysis of your three music videos which is well-structured and detailed conveying relevant information on codes and conventions (e.g. the norms/ expectations, signs you associate with this genre). For a Distinction you will support your answers with media theories rather than just personal opinion. It is also important to explain the purpose of techniques used (why certain camera shots, mise-en-scene, and editing techniques are used) and discuss how they are used.

Justifying ideas in detail and placing them in context with society and culture would show a Distinction level of understanding. It is important to use media language as well please look at http://bcotmedia.tumblr.com/tagged/dictionary for help with this/ or ask me in/out of lectures.. Two drafts of a written analysis have been submitted which have been proof read and annotated. This has then been reviewed and changes made accordingly. Progress has clearly been made between these versions demonstrating beneficial effects. Responding to the podcast feedback I gave you on your Prezi in lesson (Proof-reading Witness Statement) has also helped you achieve the P3 criteria (as evidenced on your tumblr). Your re-drafting of the written analysis demonstrates frequent changes to work. You have made improvements to the level of detail and structure particularly evident in the final draft. Your final draft does not yet show that you have read my comments and made the changes to improve your essay. If you read the comments and respond to them you will achieve the D3 and, eventually, produce a piece of work which produces little/no errors. Remember, the reason you submitted two drafts of your written analysis was so you could demonstrate that drafting has benefitted your written work to a higher level. It is important to be precise with the language, format, structure and grammar in future so you can produce work with little/no errors, Saphu. To develop your Distinction in future use the Harvard Referencing System more accurately I will help you with this in our next Unit. A Prezi has been used to pitch an idea for a music video appropriately.

A Prezi has been used to pitch an idea for a music video effectively with some imagination such as video clips and images.

A Prezi has been produced pitching an idea for a music video. Technology was utilised effectively and included video extracts and images to explain points that were made to near-professional standards. The structure was sound and flowed effectively to support presentation. To improve to a Distinction utilise the Prezi programme more effectively by reducing the amount of text in each section,

11

and use more images/ screenshots. If you utilise the Prezi programme more effectively by identifying key words being discussed to support what you are explaining on each slide (e.g.high-lighting/ framing key sections) you can enhance your grade. You have presented an idea for a music video for Hip-hop using a Prezi to support your ideas and explanations. You expressed your intensions for the music video clearly including detail on genre, narrative and representation demonstrating an excellent level of understanding of codes, conventions and semiotics. Our class debates and the many Vlogs we have recorded in class have also helped you meet this criteria well done. Saphu, your mode of address was clear and concise whilst pitching an idea for a music video. However, in order to do so more effectively in the future you need to perform in front of an audience as your presentations skills are good, Saphu. In order to get the M5 you need to record a Vlog or Podcast in which you clearly communicate how your music video idea would use genre, narrative and representation. In order to achieve the D5 it is important not to read from the screen as this can distract the viewer from listening to your ideas. I understand that it is difficult to do this when nervous but, as Im sure you understand, this can demonstrate a lack of confidence in delivery which can in turn distract from the excellent content that you were providing the audience with. In future cue cards when delivering your presentation and/ or rehearse your presentation to develop your confidence when presenting. To improve to a Distinction identify at least 3 techniques to engage the audience through body language as a Vlog or Podcast.
