Ms. Cylvia Hayes533 Lincoln St S.Salem, OR 97032Re: Radon Measurement at Mahonia HallDear Ms. Hayes:This is a report for the radon measurement performed at Mahonia Hall. The purpose of the measuring was todetermine if the concentration of indoor radon might pose a risk to the current and future occupants. Themeasurements were conducted from February 24
th
through February 28
th
, 2012.Two Sun Nuclear Continuous Radon Measurement (CRM) devices were deployed, per US EnvironmentalProtection Agency (EPA) and National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) protocols by Neal Correy(NEHA Measurement No.: 104748RT). A CRM was placed in the billiard room (occupied space). Because thefootprint of the house is large, a CRM was also placed in the storage room (unoccupied space) at the oppositeend of the house. Both rooms measured were in the lowest level of the residence. Both CRMs performed aninety-six hour test to determine the indoor concentration of radon during said period.EPA recommends that houses with radon at or above 4.0 pico curies per liter of air (pCi/L) be mitigated toreduce the radon. EPA suggests that owners of houses with radon between 2.0 and 3.9 consider lowering theradon to under 2.0 pCi/L. The World Health Organization recommended action level is 2.7 pCi/L.Summary and RecommendationsThe average radon concentration of both rooms measured exceeded
the Environmental Protection Agency’s
(EPA) recommended action level of 4.0 pCi/L (6.2 pCi/L in the billiard room and 4.8 pCi/L in the storage room).Radon levels fluctuate depending upon weather, season and other variables. EPA suggests that homeownersconsider a confirmation radon measurement before installing a radon reduction system. Please call if we may be of further assistance or if you have questions regarding this test and/or results.Respectfully submitted,
