If you want to catch the UMBC Retrievers in action this spring season, then makeyour way out to the University of Maryland

College Park this Saturday as theymake their one local appearance. With almost every healthy athlete in action thisweekend, come out and support the UMBC Track & Field team.In the sprinting events look to the continued dominance of Mercedes Jackson in the100 meter dash, only a weekend removed from scoring school records in both the100 and 200 meter dashes. Ebonique Jones should also make an impact afterrecording a #8 All Time performance in the event a week ago. Senior Imani Colbertand junior Chowan Brightful should also continue their work in the 100 m hurdles.In the distance events, the full slate of competitors toes the line for the first timethis outdoor season. Highlights should include IC4A qualifiers Charles Bolinger, PatHairfield, and Scott Heydrick in the 800 meters. Roy Jones, opens the season in hismain event, the steeple, a year after capturing eighth place at the conference meetand recording the #3 All Time performance last year. Even though the 3,000 metersis not contested at the Conference meet, look for some fireworks with leading crosscountry runners Todd Cowing and Brandan McGee participating.In the field, every thrower will be competing in all three of the main throwing event(hammer, shot put, and discus). Look for continued dominance in the shot put byAmanda Deller and Aaron Brooks. But also keep an eye on rising hammer talentsChris Nash, Cameron McDearmon, Chrissy Robinson, and Monica Hagenauer.Highlights in the jumping events should include Aboshioma Obemeata in the triple jump and Ebonique Jones in the long jump, the pole vault will feature Laura Walkerand Sean Kshmetski, and the high jump will have Brightful and Mo Drammeh.

Entering the year as the school recordholder in both the pentathlon andheptathlon, junior
Chowan Brightful
began the transitioning to making abigger impact in individual events. Itpaid off when she took over theindoor school record in the high jumpand moved up to #2 in the 60 meterhurdles. In one meet thus far thisseason, she quickly moved up the 100meter hurdle list with a personal bestand #3 All Time 14.53.
