During the campaign I listened to Michael Steele many times when he criticized John McCain and applauded him, and I told many of my dem. and rep. friends that If Mr. Steele was running for Pres. I would have Voted for him. I am a single Mom with 2 daughters in college. They are both rep. and face alot of opposition in school with classmates and teachers, but they never back down. They don't believe in abortion(other than cases of rape or the health of the mother) and know that hard work and dedication are the root to success, not a government hand out. I fight the fight of rep. at work everyday and I am called Sara Palin by a largely male work force and have been close to tears many times for my beliefs. I was raised in a big catholic conser. family and won't be swayed by my liberal friends and coworkers. It's been hard and at times a lonely fight but when Mr. Steele became the leader I finally had a glimmer of hope. Mr. Steele, stay strong and fight the good fight. T

I'm beginning to think that I can once again be excited about the Republican Party. We need to return to our conservative roots and stay true to them. If the Democrats stay left and Republicans move to the center then compromise is to the left of center. We must reclaim the right and force the Democrats to the center. We can do this by being open and truthful. Instead of raising politicians who think they have to strut, posture and deal, raise statesmen who speak plainly and tell the truth. Americans want the truth on all issues and they deserve it. Give it to them and they will support you.

Congratulations! Now that we have a true conservative running the party, let's get things going!. As a Black / Hispanic conservative, it does my heart good to know that there are some of us who are not dictated by a party that feels it needs to have entitlements in order to exist. Mr. Steele has demonstrated that hard work and ethics will eventually win the day. I don't believe what Mr. Steel looks like is what's important. But The fact that he is what he is will hopefully get many other Black Americans to take notice and realize the propaganda perpetrated by the liberal Media against conservatives will begin to wear off. But more important! We are and will continue to be a party of the people and for the people...whatever they are!

Greetings Dave, As much as I would love to agree with you, and yes what you said about the democrats is true; however, Bush did allow himself to be captivated by the war on terror. He all but said so in his last speech. I don’t think the economy would be better under McCain. He is very close to being a democrat. I would highly recommend the book, Liberal Fascism for edification. I have come to realize the progressive liberals can reside on either side of the party line. Our main problem is the propaganda arm of the DNC that is, mainstream media. Truth may be on our side but we cannot get it out. Just watching Anderson Cooper and others tells you that they will not tell the public the truth about where much of the stimulus is going and why. Have you noticed that now that Iraq has settled down they hardly talk about it at all? I wonder if the public even realizes that things are going much better there. Right now, you are better off calling your senators Dems or Repubs and telling them not to vote for the stimulus.

We need to explain better, that things were not that bad under Geroge Bush. Only when the Dems took over congress did things really start going down hill. Economy would be doing much better if John McCain won.Markets would have felt better and started investing again.Right now they have nowhere to go.

There is a big favor I have to ask. I can't understand why the Republicans haven't done a better job at showing people that the majority of states that are in the tank are there because they have been democratic strongholds for years. Michigan, New York, California, Illionis....need I go on? The states that are "thriving" tend to lean republican/right to work. Why are we not capitalizing on this????? Why is the distinction not being made?????? Until we can clearly show what is up, we are sunk. Oh One more thing. I am TIRED of being "out manuevered". Look at the Minnesota senate race. Now, I have heard that the Census has been moved to the White House and under Rahm Emmanuel. If we lose "control" of the census, it is over for us as far as redistricting. Please, please, tell me there is a plan out there to stay competitive against all the shannnigans.

Before we are going to make any progress we have to recognize and deal with the sad reality that we have two economic traitors in our midst this night. Collins and Spector. Thant’s right, no sir, maam, distinguished anything, I said traitor. These people must not be forgiven, excused nor forgotten, they must be cut out like the cancers to conservatism and market economics that they are. That’s job one! I wish I were wrong and writing on a happier note.

I was THRILLED to hear Mike Steele was now in charge! How great is that?! Then I read Dave Cavena's article on "Why the GOP Must Reconsider Abortion". I couldn't believe it. Then he must agree with Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger when she wrote in her book, "Women and the New Race" - "The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it." Or maybe he agrees with Sanger (a proponent of the KuKluxKlan) when she wrote in Pivot of Civilization on blacks, immigrants and indigents, "..human weeds", "reckless breeders", "spawning...human beings who never should have been born." How Obama can support a disgusting, evil organization like this is mystifying. The Republican Party needs to get back to their foundational roots and refuse the KoolAid. Dr. King understood as he said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetuate it." Any lawmaker who determines to vote for abortion in any form should have the courage and integrity of their own convictions to educate themselves and attend a live abortion to see what it is they are really voting for. I have high hopes that Mike Steele will put courage and conviction of what is truly right back in the Republican Party. I will follow Dwight Eisenhower's direction when he said, "Let's commit ourselves to pray for those in authority on the local, state and national levels. Let's put ourselves on God's side. Lincoln was right when he said: "My concern is not whether God is on our side. My great concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right."

Here's a suggestion, A friend forward an email to me. It read, Congress should duplicate what corporations do when they are cash strapped. That is, they need to please the stakeholders, so they downsize. The suggestion is, congress should be downsized to half of their current strength. The logic here is, cut half of the congress out should equate to cutting half the pork out. Couple that with the saving in salary and retirements we should do well. The email also suggested that congresspersons should retire only after 30 years of service. We by the way are the stakeholders.

Mr. Steele, CONGRATULATIONS on your election as the new RNC chairman. I am so happy! When I read you were elected, I could have jumped out of my chair at work. I kept saying "YES, YES, YES." I'm a conservative who was ready to give up on the Republican party. I now have hope. Don't give up your conservative views! By the way, we're out there conservatives 40ish - 50ish in the Chicagoland area. You have my support!

The Republican Party has utterly lost my confidence, and it will take a lot more than four years of contrition to undo the formidable damage that you have done to the party. I will not send money. I will not deliver lawn signs. I will not apply bumper stickers. I see absolutely no chance that this will change unless the party strongly opposes virtually everything that president Obama works for. He is so far to the left, that the minimum standard for Republican performance is to reject all he does. This is no time for bargaining.

This is all fine and dandy, but conservativism isn’t just as simple as being against abortion, or spending, it is about history. It is about our history passing on values to us. It is about believing in the founders, in the constitution as it was written and not as some transmutational living document that changes with time and culture. Conservative is about smaller government, classical liberalism that is, the root word meaning liberty or freedom. It is about a country that is so free a homeless, uneducated, drug addict could conceivably become a wealthy business tycoon. That is, people having the ability to move up or down through the socioeconomic strata of the US. It is about republicanism or the republic not a democracy. It is about a society of laws that we the people select through our representatives and then abide by. We need to separate the republican party from the democrat party because here of late, it has become hard to distinguish between the two. It is not about money, it is not about wooing the left wing media, it is about standing on principle, good principle. It is about doing what is right for the nation, not for the party. It is about not about power and wealth, but the poor, the middle class, and the rich. It is not black or white, but all colors.

Yes, Mr. Steele, you need to stop these repub Governors from dragging down the repubs in Congress! Repubs need to STAND FIRM and not allow this PORK FILLED package to pass. IT IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO OUR PARTY THAT THESE GOVERNORS ARE BENDING TO PRESSURES FROM THE LEFT!!!

Congratulations Mr Steele, I love what I have read. I was ready to leave the RNC if they didn't elect someone who reflected my conservative values. I agree with you. We don't need to change the message, just the delivery. We MUST regain our integriy and our direction. I am ready. I am willing. I want to help. I realize the time for sitting back and watching is over. My one concern is the moderate Republicans in Congress and in the Governorships around the country. I am concerned that the Senate Republicans will accept moderate concessions on this mess of a stimulus and call it "good". Not only that, but we have Governors (such as Crist) urging the members of Congress to sign off on this disaster because some of the funds would come their way. I am ready and willing to help in any way possible, but I refuse to support anything less than smaller gov't, less taxes and personal responsibility. Your election excites me and gives me hope for a future with the GOP. Know that you have my support and prayers.
