Bar Code To 2D Code

Reasons for popularity of barcode Reading speed Accuracy Convenient Need for 2D code Storing more information Storing more character types Occupy small printing space

2D Code emerged in response to these needs and

problems

About QR Code
Form of 2D symbol.
Developed by DENSO WAVE in 1994. The main goal being easily interpreted by scanner

equipment.

A bar code contains data in one direction only. QR Code contains information in both the vertical and

horizontal directions. QR Code holds a several hundred times the amount of data carried by ordinary bar codes.

Features
High Capacity Encoding of Data
Small Printout Size Dirt and Damage Resistant Readable from any direction in 360 Structured Append Feature

High Capacity Encoding of Data

Conventional bar codes can store maximum of 20

digits while up to 7,089 characters can be encoded in QR Code. Data capacity

Numeric only- Max. 7,089 characters Alphanumeric-Max. 4,296 characters Binary (8 bits)-Max. 2,953 bytes

Kanji, full-width Kana-Max. 1,817 characters

Continue..

A QR Code symbol of this size can encode 300 alphanumeric characters.

Small Printout Size

Since QR Code carries information both horizontally

and vertically, QR Code is capable of encoding the same amount of data in approximately one-tenth the space of a traditional bar code. (For a smaller printout size, Micro QR Code is available.)

Dirt and Damage Resistant

QR Code has error correction capability.
Data can be restored even if the symbol is partially

dirty or damaged. A maximum 30% of code words can be restored.

Readable from any direction in 360

Omni directional
High speed reading Accomplishes this task through position detection

patterns located at the three corners of the symbol.

Structured Append Feature

Divisible into multiple areas.
One data symbol can be divided into up to 16 symbols,

allowing printing in a narrow area.

How to read QR CODE??

The information encoded may be text, a URL, or other

data. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The technology has seen frequent use in Japan and South Korea; the United Kingdom is the seventhlargest national consumer of QR codes.

QR codes storing addresses and Uniform Resource

Locators (URLs) may appear in magazines, on signs, buses, business cards, or almost any object about which users might need information.

QR codes may be used to display text to the user, to

add a vCard contact to the user's device, to open a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), or to compose an e-mail or text message. Users can generate and print their own QR codes for others to scan and use by visiting one of several paid and free QR code generating sites or apps.
