INTRODUCTION Everyone of us watches television. Someone for 5 minutes or other one for an hour or more. Starting from a little advertisement, opening sequences of any news program, television commercials, music videos and up to Hollywood blockbusters, each and everything on television contains Animation. WHAT IS ANIMATION? It is a deliberate, systematic and meticulous endowment of an inert symbolic object with the appearance of thought, emotions and personality.

EVOLUTION OF ANIMATION ANIMATION WENT THROUGH SO MUCH TO GET WHERE IT IS TODAY.IT STILL CONTINUES TO CHANGE RAPIDLY TODAY. AS NEW ,FASTER HAR5DWARE AND MORE SOPHISTICATED SOFTWARE BECOMES AVAILABLE AT CONTINUALLY DROPPING PRICES, NEW STANDARDS ARE APPEARING ALMOST EVERY MONTH. HISTORY PROSPECTIVE: HISTORY OF ANIMATION FROM THE EARLY 1800S TO JUST BEFORE THE ADVENT OF THE PERSONAL COMPUTER. ANIMATION DID NOT HAPPEN INSTANTLY. MANY PEOPLE CONTRIBUTED TO MAKE ANIMATION WHAT THE ANIMATION TODAY IS . MANY STEPS HAD TO TAKE PLACE . FIRST TO MAKE MOVING IMAGE POSSIBLE AND THEN DEVELOPING TECHNIQUES FOR CREATION OF ANIMATION. WHAT YOU NEED? A question arises here what you exactly need for having specialization in Animation : Think creatively Have good visual imagery Some basic design sense An eye for colour, detail and proportion Must draw well Love telling stories

2D CELL ANIMATION This is the oldest form of Animation .So it is also referred to as traditional form of expression .For eg. all cartoon movies. WALT DISNEY is the first company who gives this gift to the world. Then Disney produced another cartoon Animation as characters. How move to this Animation happens? Suppose our character has to move starting from a place A to reach the destination B. As we all know an image retains on our retina for 1/16th seconds because after that our eye lids cover the iris for a while so that the image present on our retina gets lost. Now, starting from initial point the character reaches destination in some seconds. The sketches are drawn on paper for 24 different continuous poses attained in each second. Then all these drawings are flipped on very high speed on computers in proper sequence that it gives appearance as the character is moving. PUPPET ANIMATION It is mainly related to the puppet shows. Like in the puppet shows, a string is tied on one end at the puppet and on the other end to the finger of the person holding it. Puppets are the models made of wooden logs which acts as actors for the scene. They are dressed up according to the scene. Then one person brings life (motion) to them by moving the strings tied on the fingers. In this, 24 still photographs are taken of a particular scene and they are then flipped on computers on a very high speed. and it is felt that the picture is in motion. and the scene is going on in reality. Special effects are also added through computers like fire behind the scene if required. CLAY ANIMATION This is also 3D Animation like Puppet Animation. In this, models of the clay are made. These are flexible models so that they can be moved anyway. Clay, rubber , urethane foam and similar models are often used for external appearance of the

model. Now, these models should be flexible enough to be posed, but rigid enough to hold the pose while it is being photographed. But these models do not hold a pose very well under the studio lights. A pose has to be retained until 24 still photographs have not been taken. For this, a metal skeleton called ARMATURE is made that provides rigid support. The design and construction of armature is critical to the puppets successful use and there are many rules, guidelines and trade records to build a good armature. Armature is made of thin flexible wire that can be moved anyway. This model is a geometric structure of organic shape. If a more organic armature is required the most common approach is a bone setup. Suppose we have to show a moving ant. First of all, we will prepare the model of ant. Then show it moving on the wall. Like, Initial position After 1 second After 2 second

24 still photographs are taken for every second. This ant here is a non-living thing therefore we should paste it again & again. Otherwise it will not be stable on the wall. For eg. The utterly butterfly amul girl, the handiplast boy, Cadbury gems, colgate cavities, tortoise mosquito coils, maggi noodles and kelloggs cricketer in pepsodent ,latest in amron hilife batteries(strong life, long life). TYPES OF CLAY ANIMATION Displacement Animation Replacement Animation Suppose a character lets say Alladin is walking. During walking , the character has to repeat his pose only the surrounds are changed.

In case of 2D cell Animation all the sketches are to be designed again. But in Clay Animation, several models are made of a single pose so that there is no need for 24 different modules. otherwise time consumed will be more. This is called Replacement Animation. And the other one is general i.e. a single model is made and according to scene it is modulated and this is called Displacement Animation. REPLACEMENT ANIMATION It uses a complete model for each pose, swapping out model for each change, sometimes for each frame. These models generally cast a mass produced in the batches of one pose, the deformed, sculptured or otherwise modified to create the individual poses. Example of this is a movie named THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAINS and the character name is Tyranasaurus Rex. DISPLACEMENT ANIMATION It is the process of posing joints or bones to change a characters appearance. This approach requires only one complete model and is much better suited to animation of major special actions like arm and leg motion. This is more familiar than replacement animation to most people because popular character such as King Kong were displacement puppets. COMPUTER ANIMATION The things we are discussing till now are 2D,clay & puppet animation they are all done manually. But in this all the work is done on computers. Computer works as a studio . It acts as a composer, light man , actor, director, cameraman etc. Each and everything is animator. Computer acts as a substitute to the real life studio. Most 3D animation software includes a number of functions designed to replicate the effect of an armature. A CGI(Computer Graphics Imagery) is a method of distorting the shape of a model in a controlled fashion within a defined area. It is a collection of in which all the images of the scenes are stored in computers. ADVERTISING ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR USES OF COMPUTER ANIMATION IS TELEVISION ADVERTISING . SOME OF THE MODELS THAT THE COMMERCIAL WOULD BE ANIMATED AND INCORPORATED WITH THE LIVE VIDEO. THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN MODELLING AND CREATING THE ANIMATION COULD TAKE A MANY WEEKS. SINCE MODELLING IS A VERY DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING JOB,SOME SHORTCUTS THAT WOULD BE SHOWN IN THE COMMERCIAL.ANIMATION OFFERS A WAY OF CAPTURING PEOPLES ATTENTION AS IT CAN CREATE FANTASTIC SITUATION. EDUCATION PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW WAYS TO EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN.IF THEY ARE HAVING FUNJ,THEY LEARN BETTER.COMPUTER ANIMATION CAN BE USED TO MAKE VERY EXCITING AND FUN VIDEOS INTO WHICH EDUCATION CAN BE EASILY BE INCORPORATED.
