TheDallasArboretumhasdemonstrateditscommitmenttoitsneighborsandthecitybymorethanmeeting the requirements set out in the 1988 Planned Development Ordinance by both monitoring the traffic and parking impacts of major events and by initiating measures to mitigate problems. The Arboretum is aggressively pursuing measures today to discourage its visitors from encroaching into the adjacent neighborhoodsandtomaintainahighleveloftrafficservicealongGarlandRoad.Nootherinstitutioninthe cityhasbeensubjectedtothescrutinythathasbeenimposedupontheArboretumnorhasanyinstitution beenmoreconcernedaboutmeetingitsresponsibilitiestoitsneighborsandthecity. 2009 MasterParkingPlanfortheDallasArboretum 2011 SchematicDesignandInvestigationofAccessSystemtoAccommodateTrafficandParking ElementsofExistingandPlannedDevelopmentsofTheDallasArboretum Theinitialtransportationmanagementplan(TMP)fortheDallasArboretumwaspreparedinFebruary1988 inresponsetoaconditionimposedbytheCityofDallasinOrdinanceNo.19904thatestablishedtheplanned developmentdistrict(PDD)forapublicarboretum,abotanicalregionalparkandsupportuses.Thegoalof the TMP was to present strategies and mechanisms the owner or agent must implement to ensure the fluidityofvehiclemovementatthesiteandaccommodatethetransportationofvisitorstoandfromremote parkinglocationsinasafeandefficientmannerwhileminimizingimpactsonadjacentneighborhoods.The TMPandsubsequentupdateswererequiredtocontainadescriptionofsix(6)keytransportationelements (aslistedbelow)andasurveyofparkingdemandandsupply. 1) A schedule of special events and an estimate of the number of remote parking spaces required to accommodatevisitorsoftheevent. 2) Alistandthelocationofremoteparkingsitesforspecialeventdays,numberofspacesneededforal usesonthepropertyateachremotesite,theconsentoftheownerofeachremotesiteforitsuse, andthedistanceofeachremotesitefromtheproperty. 3) Themethod,typeandquantityofvehiclestobeusedtotransportvisitorstoandfromtheremote parkinglocationsandtheirfrequencyandhoursofoperation. 4) Theroutestobeusedbythetransportingvehicles 5) Methods to be used to prevent visitor parking on neighborhood streets and to direct vehicles to remoteparkingsitesfromtheproperty. 6) Promotional strategy outlining the educational and instructional material on remote parking availability and describing how this material well be conveyed to the visitor before coming to the property. ComprehensivetrafficstudieswerescheduledbytheDallasArboretumin1989,1992,1995,1997,and2001 to update the TMP. Each of the studies had a goal to accommodate the transportation needs of visitors whileminimizingtheimpactontheadjacentneighborhoods. Thefollowingtrafficandparkingstudiesareattached.Theyarerepresentativeoftherangeofeffort undertakenbytheDallasArboretumtoaddressneighborhoodandcityconcerns.
