It's such a difficult fairway to hit. Fifteen years ago there was a safe way to play this hole. Hit a three iron off the tee and then a wedge. But theyve lengthened it so much you just have to hit a driver. I've seen players hit a three wood off the tee and go in with a five iron. Well, that green isnt built to take a five iron. You have to have a lofted club. I hit driver and wedge in practice. Lets hope I can do that in competition.

Its a long hole now. It plays 505 yards, particularly when its playing so long out there. Ive been driver, four iron to get up. Its a tough approach as youre always thinking about the water on the left of the green. It only takes a slight pull to be wet. The tee was moved back 10-15 yards, theres been trees added down the right and the fairways been shifted left. Its a take-the-parand-run sort of hole.

When you see your ball land safely on the green youre relieved. Its one of those shots when you are watching the ball flying and you arent sure whether it is the right club, because the air swirls. Its funny, if the winds against it can be as much as a seven iron, but Ive also hit wedge. You used to aim for the trap in front of the green, but thats a killer now. You have to play it in two parts. The right half of the green and the left.

Its a tough drive that you just have to sling up there. If you get it on the fairway its a birdie chance. Its one of those severe greens that if you miss in the wrong spot youre completely knackered. I hit an approach shot in practice that I thought would leave a nice enough chip as it was short of the green. But when I got there it was screwed. Youre talking three yards difference between it being fine and impossible.
