This month’s award for most prepared attorneysshooting video goes to Washington Real estateattorneys
Tom Oldfield and Jeff Helsden
. Not onlydid they have their content prepared on time, their outlines were on topic and highly relevant to their potential clients and they had practiced endlessly. When I arrived to set up, it was evident to me thatthey were roaring to go.We started shooting at 8:00 a.m. and right from thestart, Jeff hit it right out of the park. On point. Ontarget and highly practiced. Tom talked about probate and 1031 tax exchanges. Both wereextremely prepared and their confidence was clearlyvisible.A true sign of a successful video shoot is when theattorney gets into his groove and realizes thatcreating video is really fun once you start doing it.Both Jeff and Tom were pleasantly exhausted by theend of the day. Congratulations to both Jeff and Tomfor this month’s Lawyers Video Studio award!
MOST PREPARED AWARD
LAWYERS WHO WENT ABOVE & BEYOND
The McGlinn’s of San Diego
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael McGlinnand his son Ryan recently. They handle criminaldefense of juveniles in the San Diego area. When I first met them, I learned that their biggestcompetitor was not private attorneys, but rather court-appointed public defenders. That presented aunique challenge in how to separate them from their colleagues. As I always say, it’s important to know what your competitors are doing to market themselves and thenmake sure you do the opposite. In their case, the court-appointed public defendersdon’t do any marketing. The court appoints theseattorneys. From a clients’ perspective the publicdefender is ‘cheaper’ than a private defense attorney. How then can you compete against someone whodoes no marketing and is the lowest-price commodityin the complicated and confusing world of juvenilecriminal law?The key answer is not to compete against them.Instead, highlight the differences. Explain the pros &cons of each. Let the consumer come to therealization that there are key differences and let themdecide who they would prefer to have as their childs’attorney.
