O’Malley Proposes
Covert Tax Hike in the Final Hours of Session!

Sales Tax Proposal Hurts Working Class Families, Bypasses Voice of Marylanders

ANNAPOLIS
 –
After loud and overwhelming opposition against any increase to the Maryland
gas tax from citizens across Maryland, Governor O’Malley has resorted to desperate political
tactics to pass any version
of a gas tax he can. O’Malley is now calling his gas tax hike a sales
tax increase from 6% to 7% in an attempt to mislead citizens.
“Governor O’Malley is covertly trying to pass the gas tax increase by a different name
during the final hours, on a weekend
no less, of the 2012 General Assembly,”
said Nick
Loffer, AFP Maryland Grassroots Director. “
It is time Governor O’Malley accept the
bipartisan opposition to his political agenda

that is hurting Maryland’s working class.”
 Loffer continued,

“Gov. O’Malley
is forcing this major tax hike down the throats of
Maryland’s working class during a recession and turning a blind eye to the averagecitizen’s economic troubles.”

Marylanders will see increases to the flush and income taxes as a part of Gov. O’Malley’s
scheme to balance the budget through tax increases. An increase to the general sales tax willundermine economic development and prosperity in Maryland and strain the budgets of familiesalready struggling to get by.Americans for Prosperity is urging all
Marylanders to call Governor O’Malley, Speaker Michael
Busch, Senate President Mike Miller, and their local representatives and ask them not to vote onany version of the gas tax through the end of session.
