Costa Rica: Blooming Future in the Medical Tourism Trend
Central America Data reported that tourists coming to Costa Rica for fun andsun and affordable plastic surgery reached 2,107,000 between November 2007and October 2008. The numbers simply indicates how plastic surgery in CostaRica surfaced out as a major medical tourism destination that most Americanmedical tourist will choose to visit. Though the country’s business leaders fromits tourism sector admit that the rate of growth continues to increase but at aslower rhythm, tourism andplastic surgery in Costa Ricawill be stable despitethe international uncertainty.“Expectations for this year are that there will be an increase of 8-9% in visitorarrivals, after taking external aspects into consideration,” said Alberto Lopez, executive director of the National Tourism Chamber (Canatur).Costa Rica is hailed as the “The closest thing to heaven on earth” by theNational Geographic Channel this year. In addition to already being a greatvacation destination, Costa Rica is also one of solid countries that promoteshigh quality, affordable plastic surgery. Affordability and quality are the twomain factors that drives foreign patients to get plastic surgery in Costa Rica.Medical care is considered very expensive if they are uninsured. There areroughly 48 million citizens without health insurance in the United States alone. An additional unaccounted millions more who are under-insured, and anestimated 120 million without dental insurance. These individuals have to payfor their health care coming from their own pockets. Thus, if they can’t affordsuch overwhelming plastic surgery cost and health care, it is not accessible. In2007 an estimated 750,000 Americans left the US for exotic destinations suchas Costa Rica, India, and Singapore seeking lowerplastic surgery costandother medical procedures. Plastic surgery cost in Costa Rica offers cost of savings from 40%-80% U.S. list prices. In terms of quality, affordable plasticsurgery in countries with low labor costs is expected to continue because of high-quality healthcare providers internationally. Throughout the world today, from India to Latin America, increasingly one is able to find modern, high-quality healthcare and this is evidenced by the boom in JCI-accreditedHospitals.In terms of quality, majority of the doctors in Costa Rica spent much of theirtime maintaining the country’s excellent public medical care system. Many of Costa Rica’s medical professionals are American Medical Board certified, guaranteeing training on a par with their U.S. counterparts. The Health Ministryhas identified accreditation as an important part of driving quality in healthcareupwards and the CIMA Hospital in San Jose has already received itsaccreditation. In addition to licensing by the Health Ministry, a system of professional societies oversees the membership of a number of specialties.Medical doctors, surgeons, and dentists all have dedicated societies thatpromote new skills and the maintenance of standards throughout theirprofessions. To know more about plastic surgery in Costa Rica, please visitGoSculptura Costa Ricaand get your free surgeon consultation and a free preview of howyou will look like after the surgery.
