 The Challenge
Although GroupWise had served Sterling Financial well or many years, third-party applicationsincreasingly were being written to integrate with Outlook.“Once we established a deinite goal o moving to Outlook, we began to drilldown into what themigration would require in terms o resources. We determined that without a tool, it was going to bediicult or us to ensure the success o the migration – especially when dealing with 1,400 mailboxesand the size o data residing on them,” said Michelle Paulnock, VP/Solutions Support Manager at SterlingFinancial Corporation.Sterling Financial wanted the ability to migrate multiple mailboxes at once and scale the project or aspeciic number o Exchange boxes/servers and PC workstations. The company’s technology departmentwanted to be able to complete the entire migration over one weekend without impacting end users onMonday morning. The company began the search or a tool that would meet its requirements or the migration.
 The Quest Solution
Sterling Financial explored the Internet or providers o migration tools. Based on research results, vendorcustomer reerences and input rom employees, Sterling Financial decided to move orward with Quest’sGroupWise Migrator or Exchange.“Ater going out into the market and evaluating a number o dierent migration tools, we determinedthat Quest oered the best tool to meet our needs,” said Paulnock. The company also chose to engage a Quest Proessional Services consultant to assist with the migrationproject. This helped the company ensure that the Quest tool was installed properly and the appropriateparameter settings were changed and applied to guarantee a successul conversion.Sterling Financial initially assumed it would need to change all user passwords in GroupWise prior to themigration. But ater changing some parameter settings in the tool, the company was pleasantly surprisedto learn that it could avoid that exercise. Sterling Financial also was able to convert all o the archived dataprior to the migration and then easily merge the converted archive data with Outlook’s personal stores.“Due to the number o mailboxes and the amount o data that we needed to convert, it certainly paid o or us to bring in a Quest consultant who was well-versed in the usage o the tool to help with themigration,” Paulnock stated. “The consultant showed us shortcuts and other eatures o the tool that wemight not have otherwise utilized – and this saved us considerable time and headache.”
“GroupWise Migrator for Exchange impact-ed our operations by ensuring a successful migration from GroupWise to Outlook.We were able to convert all 1,400 user mailboxes – as well as everyone’s archived data – in one weekend. Our end users wereable to access Outlook on Monday morningwithout any difficulties or problems.”
