BEAT LA: The Padres and Dodgers conclude their four-game series to open the season this afternoon, with Clayton Richard and Aaron Harang each taking the hill for their 2012 debuts...the four-game series marks the first of six matchups against the Dodgers, including a three-game set to begin the Padres first road trip (4/13-15)...the Dodgers next visit to Petco Park will be 5/16-17 for a two-game series. LAST TIME OUT: The Padres dropped their first extra-inning contest of the season, losing 6-5 in 11 innings to the Dodgers last night...the Padres found themselves down early, trailing 5-0 after four innings, but battled back with a five-run fifth to tie the game...the five-run inning featured just two hits, but was driven by five walks, one wild pitch and a hit batter...the Friars walked in four consecutive plate appearances, bringing in runs with the final three...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other time the Padres drew three straight bases loaded walks was on 4/5/84 vs. PIT...the last time the Padres scored at least five runs in an inning was 7/31/11 vs. COL. EASTER SUNDAY: Easter Sunday has fallen during the regular season in four of the last six seasons, with the Padres going 3-1 in those tilts...the Padres won in 06, 07 and 09 before their Easter winning streak was snapped last season. MASTERS OF THE DIAMOND: As San Diego native Phil Mickelson looks to grab his fourth Masters victory at Augusta National this afternoon, the Padres will be looking for their fifth win on Masters Sunday in the last six years...since 2007, the Padres have only lost once (2010) on the final day of the Masters Tournament, winning in 07, 08, 09 and 11. SLOW STARTS: The Padres 0-3 start to the 2012 campaign is the first since the 2003 season...the last time the club lost each of its first four games was in 1994.
