Advice for students considering graduate programs:
If you want to do a PhD, the two most important factors for success are having a compatibleworking style with your advisor and loving your problem. You have to mesh with your advisor toget the most out of the learning/mentoring experience. You have to love your problem such thatwhen you stay up late setting up a simulation or experiment and you wake up at 6am the next
morning, you can’t wait to get back into the lab to see the results. Solving a problem that no one
else has solved is difficult enough without also having to deal with interpersonal stress and beingbored.

Being part of motivated and supportive community that was constantly striving for excellence.

If you have a BS and want to be an engineer in the workforce,
get a master’s degree –
