The reasons which have induced me, astranger iu England^ and coming into thiskingdom, with no expectation whatever of publishing any new work while remaininghere, to present the following production tothe British public are these. Some time priorto leaving my native country, I remarked to, one of my associates in the Institution over' which I am permitted to preside, that I wasperfectly certain that the common explanationof the ninth of Romans, was based upon afundamental misapprehension of the Apostle'smeaning and design in the chapter; andthat, if my life was spared, I would attemptat least, a demonstration of the fact, by givingthe true exposition.
