A Model of Efficiency
After living in Henry County for twenty-two years and spending a great amount of time and
effort as awatchdog for the county board of commissioners it is clear to see when something will work
and when itwill not. There are two taxing authorities in the county: the board of commissioners and the school board. They are each responsible to the taxpayers for providing specific services. One of them is highly efficientand works through a highly educated and competent staff to fulfill their constitutionally defined role as anelected board.Watching and learning from the former schools superintendent Jack Parish was an eyeopening opportunity.
Dr. Ethan Hildreth
has served the students and community of Henry County for twenty-one years. Since his appointment to the position Dr. Hildrethhas served as chief executive officer of the system to provide stability and seamlessleadership. Citizens seldom hear about upheaval or discord within the school systembecause the functions of the system are managed with specific guiding principles:governance, strategic planning, accountability, and communications for the continuousimprovement of student, school, and system performance. The Henry school system works. It is the largest employer in the county. There are40,000 students. It receives the largest portion of local property taxes, along withfederal and state funding. The Henry board of education oversees operations for the system, but the realsuccesses of our school system depend on the professional dedication of the many people like Dr. Hildrethto make it work.
Shanes Rib Shack hosting Spirit Day, raising funds for Henry Special Olympics
The original Shanes Rib Shack, at 2136 Ga. Highway 155 in McDonough, will host a Shanes Spirit Day eventSaturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Twenty-five percent of the cost of all meals purchased at the eatery that daywill go toward the Henry County Special Olympics program.Kyla Tammaro, a catering coordinator for the restaurant, said Shanes has conducted Spirit Day events tosupport other causes in recent years, but that Saturday will mark the first such event benefiting Henrys special-needs community. She hopes to raise enough money to support events for the countys Special Olympicsendeavors. The whole organization is just a neat group of people, from the athletes to the volunteers, said Tammaro. With anything, theres always a cost involved. We want to be able to send athletes to competitions andtournaments.

Larry Stanley for Henry Board of Education, D-2
I want to serve Henry County in positive and meaningful ways. Our school system is highly regardedand recognized across the state. It will be an honor to serve with the other board members as anadvocate for students, parents and school system staff. The role of a school board is to set direction and provide oversight and accountability. While day-to-day management is delegated to school system staff through the superintendent, board members areelected and therefore must be accessible and accountable to the countys voters, taxpayers andresidents.Visit & Like on Facebook:
