Her hope is to find a group of leaders using therapeutic techniques that are specifically relevant to this population. The group facilitators must facilitate groups that are at least 30% African American women although the group does not need to be exclusively female or African American. Faith and Public Health Leadership Institute The Center for Faith and Community Health Transformation is partnering with the UIC Center for Public Health Practice to offer a

T h i s workshop will help nonprofit agencies discover how to make the most of high-skill volunteersthose lawyers, publicrelations specialists, accountants and other professionals who are increasingly interested in donating their expertise. Well explore how to: identify major projects on which volunteers can be helpful; integrate them into those projects; smooth relations between staff and volunteers, and make paid personnel more effective in deploying and supervising their unpaid counterparts; know when to consider volunteers for leadership positions, including the Board of Directors; and keep them motivated (using The Big MAC approach) so you can truly rely on them. The program is geared toward executive directors, program directors, and volunteer

coordinators, as well as any other staff or board member charged with overseeing volunteers. All attendees will take home a fresh perspective on the potential for volunteer contributions to their agency, as well as concrete ideas about how to attract, train, and retain the very best free help. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention program wished to support research that will enhance our understanding of how mentoring can prevent problems for those who are at risk of involvement or already involved in the juvenile justice system. While mentoring appears to be a promising way of helping these youth, more work is needed to identify the components of a mentoring program that are most effective. Research supported by this program will directly inform the design and delivery of mentoring program. Each summer, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless awards several renewable college scholarships to graduating seniors who experienced homelessness while in high school. The freshman year award is $2,000, with at least $1,000 awarded yearly to students as they progress through college. Eligible to apply are students who were homeless at some point while attending Chicago Public high schools, or homeless students living anywhere in Illinois who were formerly clients of the CCH Law Project. Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 scholarships. The deadline to submit an application, including two letters of reference, is Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Volunteers feel under-utilized and leave; nonprofits become discouraged due to lost time and energy. Though NPOs desire the professional expertise of skilled volunteers, they don't have tools or methods to prepare their organizations for this new resource.Tap Into Experience (TIE) is a unique program developed in 2011 through an AmeriCorps grant to CLOI that prepares organizations to effectively integrate professional-level volunteers.
