Edmonton has a proud history of providingone of North America’s most convenient andenvironmentally sound waste managementsystems. This integrated system includes:
•Collectionofgarbageandrecyclables•Assistedsetoutofwasteandrecyclablesforlowmobilityresidents•EcoStations•RecyclingDepots•BigBinEvents•ReuseCentreforsmallitems•AlargeitemsReuseArea(atAmblesideEcoStation)•Anenvironmentallyresponsiblewaste
processing and disposal system.This includes:
— A composting facility that converts
organicsinyourgarbageintocompost—Recyclingfacilitieswhererecyclablesare
sorted and sent to market
—TheEdmontonBiofuelsFacilitythatonce
operating in 2013, will convert waste
thatcan’tberecycledorcomposted
into methanol.
The main reason for our success is the
participationofresidentsintheCity’swaste
management programs, including the work of hundreds of volunteers.

TheCityisseekingpublicinputonveoptions
to fund waste management services provided
tosinglefamilyhomes.Threeoftheveoptions
have a lower rate for households that set out lower volumes of waste for collection.
TheresultofyourinputwillbepresentedtoCityCounciltohelpthemdecideifthecurrentsystemoffundingwastemanagementservicesshouldbe
changed.
