hen we got a call from GrantDalton to ask if we were interestedin working with CAMPER andEmirates Team New Zealand in their 2011-12Volvo Ocean Race campaign we jumped at thechance. Musto worked with Dalts on the Flyer campaign in 1981-82 when he was the sailmaker on board, and since on Fisher & Paykel(1989-90), Merit Cup (1997-98) and Club Med(2000). Each time, we took feedback fromDalts and the crew, combined it with innovativedesign and materials to create better products – products which found their way into our technical sailing collection the following year.Advances like the Ocean One-Piece Suit, theOffshore Smock and the Three Layer Systemwere groundbreaking designs of their time. Why do these sailors like Grant Dalton, EllenMacArthur, Mike Golding, Pete Goss (the listgoes on) keep coming back to Musto? It’sbecause we listen to their suggestions andwork closely with them to create better foulweather kit that is innovative and performance-orientated, robust and reliable, but ultimately genuinely fit for purpose. They wouldn’t gooffshore in anything else.Closer to home, we can look forward to theexcitement of the Olympic sailing competitionin Weymouth Bay & Portland Harbour. Mustois proud to be working with the British, Swedishand German national squads (amongst other select crews from around the world) all of whomhave one thing on their mind - medals! The resultof this has been the creation of the ultimateperformance dinghy clothing; gear that does notimpede performance and provides lightweightcomfort, freedom of movement, optimum heatregulation, waterproof & windproof and aerodynamic properties. Now all the sailors need toworry about is their sailing! So, what a year we have ahead of us; the VolvoOcean Race, the Olympics then the VendéeGlobe, and not forgetting the growing AC WorldSeries. It’s going to be a massive year and we waitwith baited breath to watch it all unravel.
