BAFANA MADIDAS MINISTRY UPDATE

FEBRUARY/MARCH 2012

UPCOMING EVENTS
Student Christian Combine Camp: the students on our campuses (Howard and Westville) have been working with numerous Christian campus and churches in having a united camp, from the 30th March to 1st April. Holzner Garden Outreach: our new apartment is in a complex of 62 other apartments, which most of them are occupied by Edgewood Campus students (talk about fertile soil). We planning on having an outreach and trusting the Lord that numerous bible study groups will resonate from that. Graduation: mark of the 17th of April 7pm I am having my graduation ceremony at Westville campus. Im super excited but I think my grandmother is more super excited than I am. She, my mom and aunt are marking their way down to Durban for that.

TEAMMATE PROFILE
Thandeka Nosipho Zulu, originally from Newcastle but lived in Umlazi while studying towards her BCom. Supply Chain and Public Admin at UKZN. She has been involved in campus ministry from her 1st year of studying I caught a glimpse of her passion for ministry work stry serving with her on the Outreach Team. She is passionate about discipleship, leading community groups and just helping students grow in their faith especially after that had had an impact in her life throughout her varsity career.

First formal update on my ministry. Before we dig deep into what my team and I have been up to for these past few weeks, I wish to share how the Lord has been so trustworthy in my internship and I just want to lift up praise for what He has been revealing about His character (1 Thes 5:18). From learning to lining up everything I think and do to His word, ng having a teachable spirit to finding and adjusting as much as I can possibly in how to work and in a team which can be challenging at times, being refined through that. From working and studying in a microbiology lab, looking at bacteria icrobiology under the microscope to learning how to type a newsletter and raising support for ministry work, I am so excited to be doing what I am doing with no mental reservations. I have been learning so much from both Anele (who is our campus leader and discipler and Gary Price (Director pler) of ministry in KZN). These last weeks have been filled with training, . both in Durban and Pretoria, meeting partners who would like to partner , with my ministry, moving house to Pinetown, assisting in an outreach assistin for an illusionist (more to follow on that), and so much for. This year has set off on a trajectory that seems to be an amazing year working and serving the Lord!

STAFF RETREAT
To start the year off, the Durban team went to an amazing retreat in Skogheim. This gave me an opportunity to get to meet the entire Durban team, touch base urban and re-connect with God on our ministry. We spoke mostly about what team work and unity should look like. There is a very huge age gap between the team, but one thing, my team is very down to earth. What stood out was the amazing worship each morning; we also had a great time in devotion and sharing some of our expectations during the course of this year. On a different note, this week I have been learning quite much about faith! I love faith! I enjoy seeing what the bible teaches us about faith! Thats definitely one thing I know the Lord is refining me in, teaching me and growing a zest for!

SECRETS OF THE SUPERNATURAL

EXPOSED
Adrian van Vactor (big guy dressed in black) is an award winning illusionist from Arizona, USA. He uses his talent across the globe to share the Gospel with his audience. With his 3rd visit to South Africa and 1st ever visit to Durban in celebration of the 40 year ministry anniversary, he has certainly left Durban with changing numerous mindsets on the art of illusion and if a Christian guy can be doing it, more especially if you are a missionary. Rightfully titled, his series of performances all around Durban were titled Secrets of the supernatural . . . EXPOSED so what he does basically he starts off his basicall show saying all these acts you see on stage are accomplished by all natural purposes, no supernatural powers behind them then he them deceives people with his tricks, shows them how he easily deceived them with the aim to make them understand how easily numerous people who claim to have spiritual powers use numerous trickery to instil some level of fear in them so that they could be worshipped. His clear cut worshipped gospel presentation on salvation, how to find acceptance in Christ, what the cross means and so for. It has been an n absolute honor serving Adrian in his visit, surely I can A testify to how my perception to illusionists have changed ... well illusionists such as Adrian. His theology is so sound with a great insight in doctrine surrounding what is said to be of the supernatural.

MOVING HOUSE
Amidst all the moving around with Adrian, a week after his shows in Durban, my team & I were ready to move into our new apartment at Holzner Garden, Marianhill Park. As I mentioned earlier on about whats so fantastic about this place is that there are so many Edgewood campus students who live in the units (much like a residence). It is a 3 bedroom duplex, with 2 bathrooms and a guest toilet, a large open plan lounge, kitchen well suited for us and a garage. Perfectly fitting all of us. So far it has been quite challenging living and working with my team but I am certainly learning a lot from how to react to certain situations to praying together!

MINISTRY UPDATE

FEBRUARY/MARCH

Pray for us
Combined Christian Camp My family are to travel from Soweto , Gauteng to Durban for my April graduation Knock...knock! Complex outreach that we planning on having as soon as students return from their term break For my team, that we may remain grounded in the Word of God, walking in love, unified by Christ as He is the cornerstone of our foundation Ukukhanya Life Care Centre o Getting Ziphos (an orphan who is under the care of the centre) adoption on the roll o All the patients living on the premises, HIV positive; the care givers who are on call 24/7 Our campus student leaders who are carrying the ministry on their shoulders, doing a great and fantastic job that the Lord would just strengthen them in their studies juggling with ministry work To meet my target date which is the end of April in raising support so that I can start being active with wit CrossRoads and Ukukhanya Life Care Centre

Staff Training
Just right ahead getting settled in Durban, we got an opportunity, me and my team to spend 2 weeks in Pretoria, Head offices for a 3 days of MPD training (Ministry Partner Development) then another 9 days for intern/staff training. The excitement, thrill and joy I came with was soon overcome by trying to keep up in note taking, absorbing all that was taught in our seminars. For a second there I felt like a newspaper journalist covering one of the biggest international stories. By the first week done with some of the basics such as confidently sharing your faith, other training sessions involved developing a relationship with God, biblical call to making disciples, learning to pray, one of my favourite - being life-long learners, Kingdom vision, being spirit filed and long the list goes on. That Saturday we went out with The Jesus Film Team over to Nulmapiers, which is a short distance from Mamelodi, Pretoria to show the Jesus Film (The Gospel according to Luke) in SETSWANA language. It was the first time ever watching the Jesus Film & I confess furthermore in an official South African language hyped me up a bit - no limitations to how the Gospel is shared so that rocked my training to another new level Going out to level. share our faith with my team in the community was extremely different, are compared to university students. I met 3 boys during the outreach. After sharing with them and praying for them, I took time to listen to their life stories, I know God will continue revealing his character to them! One thing I aling learnt during the training is Successful witnessing is taking the initiative to share Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God that was the case of me, I would normally try to take control over the situation c but I was rebuked by the Holy Spirit on that. I most probably will never meet these guys again but one assurance I have is that the Holy Spirit was working in them and I was a vehicle used to planting that seed - now is the Lords responsibility to water in. Though I am over 600 km's away from them, I pray over their lives, standing in agreement.

He had a business visit to Durban for the weekend and invited me for coffee to catch with him and speak about ministry work.
