Newton Diathonite Insulation Plaster

Eco thermal plaster with insulation and acoustic properties
Newton Diathonite is a premixed plaster, fibre-reinforced with cork (granular 0-3 mm), clay powders and NHL 3.5 natural hydraulic lime. The resulting natural compound produces a plaster with unrivalled thermal and acoustic properties that is both hard wearing and flexible which is ideal for both internal and external applications. Diathonite, when applied either internally or externally, creates a seamless thermal barrier which eliminates any risk of cold bridging within the structure.

Benefits of a Split Application

Diathonite can be applied internally and externally to save space
One of the big advantages of applying Newton Diathonite to existing properties is that the application can be split between internal and external application, whereas conventional insulation can only be added to the inside of the walls and so impacts greatly on the internal space. It is usual for the internally applied insulation to then have a covering, such as plasterboard, which further reduces habitable space. By splitting the application of Diathonite between the inside and outside of the wall, similar insulation characteristics can be achieved with just half the space loss of conventional insulation.

Eco-Friendly
Diathonite is composed of plaster, fibre-reinforced with cork, clay powders and NHL 3.5 natural hydraulic lime. With less than 2% inorganic material, Diathonite is the highest functioning eco-friendly insulation plaster available. Diathonite was a medal winner within the Best Eco Product category at EcoBuild 2011

Thermal Insulation
Exceptional thermal insulation properties. When applied internally or externally, Diathonite creates a seamless thermal barrier which eliminates any risk of cold bridging within the structure. Thermal conductivity is 0.045 W/mK

Acoustic Insulation
Impressive acoustic characteristics - over twice the performance of conventional plasters or renders. The internal application of Diathonite to party walls significantly reduces sound transference between properties Sound absorption between 600 & 1500 Hz is >70%

Breathability
Newton Diathonite is very vapour permeable. The naturally occurring vapour drive continues unabated so that internally derived humidity continues to be removed from the internal habitable areas. The combination of lower internal humidity levels with higher internal wall surface temperatures ensures that the dew point temperature cannot be arrived at, completely removing the risk of condensation and surface mould. Vapour permeability = 0.7kg/m2/hr

Typical Applications
Can be applied both internally or externally
2

As a high performance insulated plaster for both the inside and outside of external walls

As a sound insulating plaster for both external and internal walls

As an insulated render finish for timber frame or SIPPS structures

As a render/plaster for listed buildings due to its green credentials

Thicker application can be applied to specifically prevent thermal bridges

Can be applied directly to Newton System 800 Damp Proofing and Newton System 500 Cavity Drain meshed waterproofing membranes

Internal and External Application

Quick and easy to apply by hand or spray
Diathonite can be applied externally with a spray machine, allowing for very fast application, or with a trowel for internal walls. In addition, Diathonite can be applied directly to Newton System 800 Damp Proofing and Newton System 500 Cavity Drain meshed waterproofing membranes.
