Description

I like to do something a little different than your normal everyday Abs Exercises such as crunches, situps, and leg lifts. Those are fine exercises, but when I do exercises for abs, I would rather do a more intense metabolism boosting routine.

My favorite exercises for abs don't involve directly exercising the abs. It's an alternating 3 set (some what similar to a super set) which are:

1.Renegade Dumbbell Rows
2.Front Squats with Barbells
3.Mountain Climbers on Floor

The rep format I like to use is 3 or 4 sets of 8 reps each. You can very this by doing more sets of fewer reps and maybe doing the mountain climbers to time instead of reps.

Perform the renegade dumbbell rows by starting in the pushup position, placing the hands on two dumbbells. Raise one arm while stabilizing with the other, then Lower the raised arm. Now alternate by raising the other arm. Using one arm for stabilizing during the rep generates a lot of work for core area, in other words...your abs!

The front squats are performed in much the same way that back squats are, however your switching the barbell to the front of your body level with your shoulders. This is tricky as you'll need to cross your arms and press your fists into your shoulders with your elbows out in front of you. I had to practice this a couple times to get it right and I'd bet you will too. If you belong to a gym, find a trainer to help you with your form in doing this. By shifting the barbell to the front of the body, you cause your body to work harder to maintain stability. This is where your abs get their workout. You'll feel it, I swear!

Mountain climbers are performed starting with in the pushup position. Begin shuffling your feet back and forth bringing your knees to just under your chest and then back out to the starting position. Like the name implies it looks like your trying to climb a mountain.

Rest about 30 seconds between exercises and 1 to 2 minutes between 3 set. Then, do it all again.

These 3 set exercises will give you one of the best abs workouts you'll find. And, your not even doing any direct abs exercises. Give them a try and you'll see what I mean!
