When you frst start hunting,you have this,
energy
. You think yourwork is ready and you want to show itto everyone. You want to work, and youwant your designs to change the ace o tomorrow. Sadly, no one will return yourcalls. You look around you, and out o all your ellow classmates, only a smallew have something “art related”. A ewmonths into the hunt, it was time or aYou do your best to pre-pare orthe “Real World”, but honestly, when youare a reshman, or even a sophomore,ew are thinking that ar ahead. Feware even thinking past the critique o the painting due in a couple o hours. Iwanted to soak in everything I could tobe a well-rounded artist.

was told time and time again... “Donot go to art school i you wish tomake money.” I knew exactly what Iwanted to do and there was nothingthat was going to stop me rom com-pleting my goals. I was accepted intoone o the best art colleges in the world.School was grueling and it only ueledmy passion. I have at this point aban-doned my computer and all technology to become a “traditionalist”. I wanted tosubmerse mysel, because I thought abetter understanding o classical tech-niques led to better design. I was upsetwith the school or wanting to become“paperless”.A year has passed since graduation.I have returned to the computer andhave learned to unite all means to anend. I have worked in a company, Ihave reelanced, I have given birth toMassCreate, and this book is the nextstep.

re-think. Something was not hitting andit was pretty obvious what. I was an Illus-trator applying or Graphic Design jobs.It is not unheard o or an Illustrationmajor to turn to graphic design work.My portolio however, was all paintings.I needed images to show that I could dographic design. It was time to go back tothe cave.

While working on a new portolio, I needed a goal. I had to ask,“Where did I want this new portolio to get me? What was my dream?” I hadan opportunity to step away rom assignments and let the artwork dictatewhere I wanted to be. I gave mysel a month o hard work and when it wasdone, I had 35 new portolio worthy pieces.I have been a music junkie since I was little. My Itunes has brokenthe 20K song barrier. It is no surprise my new work was geared toward theentertainment industry. I dreamed o working with music. Because my musi-cal abilities are limited, I wanted to be apart o the industry through Art.I wanted to be a rockstar artist. I love getting up In ront o people, givingpresentations, I have even painted in ront o a crowd o Metal ans at a rock estival beore.Te portolio consisted o spec work or Warped Records, wallpa-pers or Deadmau5, and many other volume inspired insights that I can only describe as “Digital Mayhem”. (Digital Illustration never seemed to describethat work close enough)
Its a nice dream... But I needed to be more “well rounded”
