ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: Ramon Cabrera delivered the hit that the Curve have been searching for for the past two games as he cleared the bases in the third with a double that helped Altoona to a, 5-2, victory over the Harrisburg Senators in Game 1 at Metro Bank Park. The timely hit would have been enough for starter Aaron Poreda (2-0) who continues to impress in his first two starts of the season. Last night, Poreda went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six for a quality start and his second win of the season. The Walnut Creek, Calif. native really only had trouble with the top of the Senators lineup as he breezed through the bottom portion with five of his six strikeouts coming from the bottom five hitters in the lineup. He received more help offensively from Robbie Grossman, who smacked a ground-rule double in the sixth that plated Adalberto Santos from second to make it a 4-2 game. Jarek Cunningham connected for his first Double-A home run in the seventh with a solo shot to right to make it 5-2 in favor of the Curve. The bullpen trio of Vic Black, Kris Harvey and Tim Alderson combined for three scoreless innings with Alderson picking up his first professional save. Cabrera finished the day 3-for-4, the teams first three-hit game of the season.

Team New Britain CURVE/HARRISBURG SERIES: The Senators and the Curve will meet a total of 14 times this season despite being the Reading closest team geographically to Altoona (roughly 121 miles). This is the first of two trips that the Curve will make to Trenton Metro Bank Park in 2012 with the other coming at the end of June. Altoona will welcome the Sens to Curve, Pa. during Binghamton their next homestand for three games from April 24-26. The two teams will not meet again in the regular season after New Hamp. the Curves final series in Harrisburg, which ends on June 29. Last season, Altoona was 5-11 vs. Harrisburg and 3-7 Portland inside the confines of Metro Bank Park. FOR ALTOONA: Opening Day starter Mike Colla takes to the mound for Altoona in Harrisburg for game two of the three-game series on Tuesday night. Colla actually made his professional debut as a starter here in Harrisburg last season on April 28th, making a spot start for the then injured Bryan Morris. Colla tossed four innings in that game and gave up a pair of runs while suffering the loss. It was the first of many starts though for the Santa Barbara, Calif. native as he went on to make 23 for the club in 2011 while posting the ninth-best ERA in the Eastern League at 3.70. This season, Colla is 0-1 and has permitted at least three runs in each of his first two starts. Last time out, Colla went five innings in Richmond and surrendered six runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out a pair. Last season against the Sens, Colla was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three games (two starts). For more on Colla, see page two. FOR HARRISBURG: Looking to even the series, the Senators trot out RHP Jeff Mandel to the mound at Metro Bank Park on Tuesday night. Mandel, 26, is no stranger to the capital of the commonwealth as he has spent parts of each of the last three seasons in Senators uniform. In 2011, Mandel started with Harrisburg only to make five relief appearances before being promoted to Triple-A Syracuse, where he spent most of the season. In 43 games out of the pen for the Chiefs, Mandel put up a respectable 4-4 record with a 3.81 ERA and three saves. Last season was the first time in his professional career that he came exclusively out of the bullpen after being a starter in the Nationals organization from 2007-10. He was selected by the Nats in the 19th round of the 2007 draft out of Baylor and enjoyed his best professional season in 2009 when he earned mid-season All-Star accolades in the Carolina League. The Texas native also started in the ASG for the Carolina League and then finished his year with a stint in the Arizona Fall League.
