Why are they ConsideredSevere?
Severe thunderstorms,
alsocalled Supercells,
are capableof producing tornadoes. These storms usually havehail larger than 1.9 cm indiameter and wind gusts inexcess of 96 miles per hour!!
 
How they aredeveloped
Severe thunderstormsare formed as a result of convection in theatmosphere. They arebyproducts of atmospheric instability,which is the active risingof air parcels thatcreates cumulus thencumulonimbus(thunderstorm) clouds.Instability is caused byeither surface heating orupper-troposphere air
