PRESS RELEASE

Hairy Highland Cows, Clowning Puffins and Magic Grannies Enter Edinburgh
Free Storytelling Event this Saturday
To celebrate the publication for three new picture books in the Picture Kelpies range, Floris Books are hosting a free storytelling day at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh this Saturday. There will be four free sessions throught the day. Hairy Highland cows, clowning puffins and magic grannies are just some of the colourful characters at these free storytelling sessions for 3 to 6-year-olds: so something for everyone! The Picture Kelpies, an imprint of Edinburgh-based independent publisher Floris Books, have strong Scottish connections (whether via their authors, illustrators or settings) but their appeal and themes are universal. Award-winning author Lari Don will be entertaining the audience with her new picture book Orange Juice Peas. Lari was inspired to write this story of hilarious misunderstandings while trying to make sure her children ate healthily. Gill Arbuthnott will introduce the audience to Rory, a wee pet mouse trying to find his owner at Edinburgh zoo. Lost at the Zoo is Gills first picture book and illustrator Joanne Nethercott spent many hours at Edinburgh Zoo capturing the animals. Illustrator Jo Allans second book about Hettie the loveable Highland cow, Hairy Hettie, depicts a cow in real need of a haircut! Lynne Rickards, author of Pink!, will read from her brilliant rhyming picture book Lewis Clowns Around. Other authors include Elizabeth McKay with her charming book Wee Grannys Magic Bag, and Chani McBain with Ginger Nut, about a blond boy who want to be ginger.

The Picture Kelpies Storytelling Event: Saturday 21 April; suitable for 3 to

6-year olds accompanies by an adult. Scottish Storytelling Centre, High Street, Edinburgh. Sessions at 10.30, 11.30. 1.30 and 2.30 (30 minutes each).
