These poems chronicle my eight month stint as a Certified Nurse Assistant in a nursing home in the border town of El Paso, Texas. I gained insight into what it is like to be in the minority in this country. In my case it was being an “anglo” among a majority of Spanish-speaking people of Mexican heritage. But the most important insight I gained was into the widespread and growing practice of warehousing our elders.
